The Atlanta Braves have signed free agents Ruben Gotay and Chris Carter to AAA contracts and assigned them to the Gwinnett Braves. This is Gotay's second go around with the Atlanta organization, playing 88 games for Atlanta in 2008, hitting .235 with a .665 OPS in 117 plate appearances while playing both second base and third base. His Major League career consists of 811 plate appearances between the Royals, Mets, and Braves, hitting .255 with a .685 OPS. This season, the 28 year old played 62 games for New Orleans, the Marlins' AAA affiliate, hitting .239 with a .717 OPS in 239 plate appearances.
Carter played 100 games for the Mets last season, hitting .263 with a .706 OPS in 180 plate appearances. The 28 year old also played in 13 games for the Red Sox between 2008 and 2009, hitting .261 with a .569 OPS in 26 plate appearances. This season, he played 54 games for Durham, the Ray's AAA affiliate, hitting .270 with a .769 OPS, 10 home runs, and 46 RBI in 233 plate appearances. The lefty hitter has played most of his career games at first base, but has seen action almost exclusively in the outfield the last few seasons.
