If it's Monday, then it's the Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Poll. As always, this poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. The poll will close in 24 hours, so get your vote in now!

…Yeah, I’ve actually got nothin’ this week. Go Braves.

Big Dolphins fan as well. I just noticed your caption about Sparano and Ireland. Why Cowher?

by TBuzz on Jun 13, 2011 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Always like his no-nonsense type of coaching philosophy. Even with that said, he’s a player’s coach and they love him for it. Just my 2 cents.

Regardless…TS and JI need to GTFO because they have ruined the Dolphins IMHO.

Randy Mueller and Nick Saban did enough damage (Ted Ginn, Jr.) before these bozos wasted a 2nd round pick on Pat White or acquired such high-caliber people as Joey Porter or Brandon Marshall.

I understand bringing in personnel from winning cultures into your organization (i.e., Demitroff in Atlanta, Whisenhunt in Arizona) is a great formula for success. Bill Parcells never accomplished a winning culture in Dallas…yet they came en masse to Miami as a winning formula as if they were a known commodity.

Here’s my opinion…

1) Hire a GM to acquire personnel and a Head Coach to head coach.

2) The last head coach to win a Superbowl with a second team is…NOBODY. Hiring a head coach because he won a Superbowl with another team is a strategy that is currently batting .000.

3) There are only a handful of organizations that evaluate, draft, develop, get on-field production, and manage the cap successfully. New England, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and a few others. Bring in people from these organizations to run your football operations.

I don’t know how successfull Bill Cowher would be. I would have LOVED the Jim Harbaugh hire if it would have happened. Plenty of guys out there who are future head coaches from winning organizations (who are not interested in being a GM either)…Russ Grimm and Brian Van Gorder just to name a couple.

Where are the results of the polls...

…From each week, while I see this poll each week, I can’t ever locate the confidence levels in graph form to see how they ebb and flow.

Where is this located?

Entering the Florida series, I opined that the club REALLY needed to do some damage against the Marlins and the Astros – as both clubs have been flailing. That has certainly happened, as the record since then is going to be at LEAST 6-1 as the road trip ends tonight. 7-3 on any road trip is outstanding… and it could end up 8-2.

My vote has been teetering between 7 and 8 for some time now. Last week I dropped to the ‘7’ after the draft, as it wasn’t clear what was really going on there (not blaming the pick positions – that came because of playoff success… and Soriano). Between mellowing out a bit on that this week and with the offense coming back to some life this weekend, I’m pushed over to a low ‘8’ again.

As much as I would like to go up to 8 based on the 6 game win streak and Uggla showing signs of life, I won’t (yet) because the Marlins and Astros suck and the Braves are now reduced by injuries to playing an outfield of Hinske/Mather, Shafer, and Young.

The fact that they’re on a winning streak despite missing some very important players is a good sign.

Feeling warm and fuzzy this week, especially after winning 6 in a row. Pitching has been pretty darn good, minus a BS by Kimbrel. Good to see Uggla making some good swings and producing, lets hope it continues. I have been voting 7 for a while now, but would like to stay above 8 for the rest of the season. It all depends on if they can continue this current level of play or not. The last win streak we had was followed by a streak of poor play, but I think things are starting to click now.

by HeyMikey on Jun 13, 2011 12:33 PM EDT reply actions

Almost forgot

still loving Schafer on the team, his speed has been a huge addition to this club and his defense has been mostly solid. Guys like him definitely create a distraction for the pitcher and the defense. The first two at-bats yesterday put pressure on the Astro’s defense and it paid off.

by HeyMikey on Jun 13, 2011 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Bumped to an 8

because the offense seems to be turning the corner, and I’m psyched about how well our super-subs (Young, Schafer, et al) have stepped in and given us a boost.

Still weary on Uggla, though. He needs to step up, and soon.

Not sold until the offense performs against decent opposition, but you can’t argue with the WINZ. Watching this team day in and day out, it’s hard to believe they’re one of the best teams in the league with all the extra innings and close games, but the record doesn’t lie. Our boys just keep finding ways to squeek out wins and stay in the race.

If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.

I went 9 up from my 8 that was becoming standard....

Uggla really looks to have figured something out… and as the pitching almost seems to be getting better from it’s already amazing performance the sky is becoming the limit

Back up to a 10

This is a playoff team this year. Heyward and Freeman are going to get better. Teheran, Minor, Delgado, and Vizcaino are coming up the pipeline. Venters and Kimbrel are the best 8-9 duo in the game.

It’s all good now, and it’s getting better.

Though beating the Marlins without their 2 best players, and the bottom-dwelling Astros isn’t incredibly impressive beating teams you should beat is always a good sign for a playoff team.

Yep, I’m feeling a bit cocky. I think that this is a competitive team that can go far. I’m also pleased with the surge of confidence and recent revelations at the plate, as well as the assumed reappearance of Dan Uggla. It’s gonna be a good summer.

Down from a ten. The reason is strictly because I am losing confidence in Fredi Gonzales as a high quality manager. I think we often win in spite, rather than because of him. An example would be two games ago failing to make a double switch when putting in a pinch hitter, when the situation called for it. It is a lot of subtle things, but those type of things indicate a lack of attention to detail that can have negative consequences.

This does not mean that i don’t think our Bravos will not make the playoffs, because I most certianly do!

Fredi gets no love at all...

When we lose it’s his fault. When we win? Come on now…

Anybody giving him credit for moving Freeman to fourth in the order while he’s heated up? Or start employing Venters as the closer? Or holding a lineup together that’s missing it’s starting OFers, it’s ROOGY, and it’s 3rd best SP?

10 games over .500. Let’s give some credit where it’s due.

Interesting number choice

Why -27?

My guess: A team has 27 outs in a game. Thus, if you’re -27. That means the game’s over. You’re down and out.

Bummer.

27 outs in a regular game. As Braves fans, we’re used to 30-40 outs a game ;-)

Still worried about the offense until Heyward and Prado are back (and until Uggla’s return to form is confirmed).

by a5ehren on Jun 13, 2011 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

6 as well....

Mostly because I am still not convinced that Fredi will use everybody the right way, and the need to get rid of Larry Parrish. Also worried about Prado being out for several weeks. I really want to be more optimistic, but I just can’t seem to find the ability. Enjoying the winning right now, though.
