The offenses broke out in Gwinnett and Lynchburg tonight and both teams got a win in true Braves fashion. In Rome and Mississippi the O wasn't as lucky and the teams faired the same. Randall Delgado pitched a decent game (he didn't give up 10 runs this time!) and Adam Milligan continued his hot month.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs 2, Gwinnett Braves 7
- Wilkin Ramirez LF - 3-4, 2 RBI, SB(7), .264 Avg
- Stefan Garttrell RF - 2-3, HR(8), 3 RBI, K, .290 Avg
- Shawn Bowman 3B - 3-3, HR(6), 2 RBI, BB, .252 Avg
A day after getting hammered at the hands (trotters?) of the IrongPigs, Gwinnett rallied back and put a whopping of their own on Lehigh Valley. The offense knocked 13 total hits with three hit games coming from Wilkin Ramirez, Wilkin Castillo and Shawn Bowman. The Braves bullpen was also stellar with five scoreless innings and nine strikeouts.
Mobile BayBears 2, Mississippi Braves 1
- Willie Cabrera LF - 2-3, 2B, K, .266 Avg
- Randall Delgado 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 4K, 3.77 ERA
Coming off his worst start of the year (and probably his career) Randall Delgado put together a nice consolidation game. He wasn't great or even necessarily good, but he battled all night and kept his team in the game (he didn't allow his runs until the sixth inning). Unfortunately his offense didn't give him much support. Pastornicky has hit a slump recently that has seen his average fall to .293, which is still good, but I was really getting used to his rapping out a couple hits and a double every night.
Lynchburg Hillcats 12, Salem Red Sox 10
- Andrelton Simmons SS - 2-6, 2B, RBI, E(12), .309 Avg
- Adam Milligan LF - 3-5, RBI, 2 K, .274 Avg
- Joey Terdoslavich DH - 2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, .279 Avg
- Gerry Rodriguez 1B - 2-3 2B, HR(3), 4 RBI, 2 BB, .239 Avg
If you were at the Hillcats game looking for pitching tonight you missed out. People who love offense however got a treat as the lead was either tied or changed on six different occasions and four different innings combined with four runs or more scored. Several of the Hillcats top hitters were putting on shows tonight. Simmons - who has been struggling recently - flashed some doubles power. Adam Milligan has been steadily raising his average and OBP recently (his May stat line is .333/.402/.542). Terdoslavich continues to improve with the bat as well with multiple hits in five of his last six games and four doubles in his last two.
Augusta GreenJackets 5, Rome Braves 3
- Edward Salcedo 3B - 1-3 HR(5), BB, K, .268 Avg
- David Rohm RF - 2-3, 2B, 3B, .251 Avg
The only real news in this game is that Evan Gattis went hitless and lowered his average to .409. Matt Lipka and David Rohm have regressed a little lately after having a very hot streak. Naturally when those two were hot the Braves were scoring a bunch of runs and winning lots of ballgames. Rohm still ended up with an OPS about .175 points better in May than April but suprisingly, Lipka posted a lower OPS in May even with his extra base hits because he didn't get on base nearly as much.
DSL Tigers 0, DSL Braves 0 - Game Suspended After 9 innings
- Luis Madrid 3B - 2-3 2B, BB, .444 Avg
- Elvin Garcia 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
Before anyone ask, no I don't know who Luis Madrid is other than he was terrible as a 17 year old last year. This year he has almost equaled his hit total from 40 ABs in about 10 ABs. Elvin Garcia is 21 years old so he probably isn't someone to get excited about.
