Hey, remember like a month ago when a lot of people were saying "don't worry, Dan Uggla will turn it around. He can't hit .188 all season." Remember that? Uggla is currently hitting .180.

It’s kind of like a tweet post … I’m trying something out. Hey, I can’t bat 1.000 all the time!

For the record, I like the idea a lot. Maybe not hating on Uggla, but the idea itself could have lots of potential for a daily thing…

Maybe it's time to get a little worried...
But I still think he will be fine. I think it’s funny how people were saying how great of a trade Wren made when he got Uggla, and those same people are now saying he sucks. Yes, he has been terrible so far, and as I said before, maybe it’s time to get a little worried. But he has been very consistant over the past several years, so he will likely turn it around.
Also, it seems as if Heyward is getting a free pass. Do you people realize that he has been terrible as well?
"Sports is human life in microcosm."

The fact that Heywad at his worst and playing through injury is still good enough for a .724 OPS…Yeah, he gets a free pass.

Please don't go there.
"My biggest thing is, I want to help this team win, I want to get some runs for the pitchers. You can only take the playing-good-defense thing so far, before you’ve got to get some hits and score some runs. It’s a trying time right now".-Uggla
Guys will have good years and bad years. You want to know what they will do, look at the back of the baseball card.
Uggla is struggling. He won’t always struggle. I count myself as one of the small handful that said Nate McLouth wouldn’t always struggle. Baseball is a game of streaks-both hot and cold.
Everyone needs to lighten up. He’s a good ball player. He’s a good hitter. Something isn’t working for him right now. This guy does this for a living. He’ll figure it out.
he'll improve to normality
but he ain’t hitting .280 this year.
i’m hoping .250, but that’s a stretch.
by apoxonbothyourhouses on May 26, 2011 1:29 PM EDT reply actions
If you don't think that Uggla will average close to .250 this year...
Then you haven’t been following Dan for very long…who leads us in HR, anyway?
He’ll have to average .290 June-Sept to close at .250. Four months of .290 and only 8 months above .290 his whole career. If he hits his career average from June-Sept he’ll finish at .235. Going to be a stretch.
by CharlotteChop on May 26, 2011 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions
If he hits his career average the rest of the way and helps the team into the playoffs, I could care less what his final slash line looks like.
It may look bad to outside observer, but we’ll be able to say “he helped carry us in the second half”.
I’ve got Jack Johnson and Tom O’Leary waiting for ya, right here
For sure – if you cut off april may and he goes .263/ 345/ .492/ .837 (all career averages) and the Braves win the East – then hell yeah.

Fastball
He’s been consistently getting beat by the fastball this season after destroying that pitch for the last 5 years. Needs to start hitting the fastball with authority and everything else will follow.
I wonder if the fact he is flailing at off speed is b/c he is not in react mode to hit the fastball, but guess mode. He must be guessing at everything.

2011 – Dan Uggla vs. LHP: .118/.211/.157
Yes, that would be a .367 OPS
I’ve got Jack Johnson and Tom O’Leary waiting for ya, right here
Look on the bright side
At least the guys we have built the team around aren’t hitting at the mendoza line like in FLA.
Uggla is a...
245 hitter over his career. On a real good season he may hit 25-35 bps over that.Conversly, on a bad season he may hit 25-35 bps below that. The hope was it would be an average or up season. It looks like he wil have a down season, but provide a blast now and again.
Except that
Dan Uggla is a career .260 hitter and has never hit below .243 in a full season.

245-250 hitter. If last year was a real good season and you take that away from the norm,he hit 251to that point in 2632AB. Maybe, that is the hitter he is.

I don’t see Phillies fans wishing injuries to Jason Heyward because they dislike the Braves. It’s ok to dislike a team and root against them. When you celebrate an injury to that teams young star, it’s not ok. Posey didn’t call himself safe. The ump did. You have a grudge against Posey because of a bad call by an ump? Let’s be mature. Buster Posey might be the star of the team you hate, but he is a human being. He is a person.

Uggla's quote below; He's as frustrated as we are.
"My biggest thing is, I want to help this team win," he said. "I want to get some runs for the pitchers. You can only take the playing-good-defense thing so far, before you’ve got to get some hits and score some runs and drive in some runs. It’s a trying time right now."

He needs to take a cue from Joe Mather…shorten his swing, and get up closer to the plate so he can cover the outside pitches….that’s where they are all going. I got a “modified” mohawk based on a pic of Dan Uggla today, so hopefully that will help him.

The point isn’t how good or bad the stat line is, just that nobody is saying Pujols is going to be awful all season. Even the best players can have extended slumps, and at least Uggla is still going yard.

Jeter’s great slump of 2004
On May 25, 2004, Derek Jeter was hitting .189. He would finish the season at .292. He would hit .300 or better in each of the next five seasons. Today he’s 25 hits from No. 3,000.
Don’t jump yet!

Different type of hitter, but at least it gives us some hope. I wonder how many hitters in history have really fallen off a cliff and never been productive again. I mean, that’s what really everyone is afraid of here. Andruw Jones comes to mind, but he tailed off in his last season with the Braves so there were obvious warning signs. Uggla was coming off his best season of his career in 2010.
I don't think anyone wants Uggla to improve - more than Uggla does.
I hope he finds a way to turn it around.

you talkin round ball or the oblong one?
if it’s oblong, I doubt Stoops and “coaching”. If it’s round, then I’ll agree because I think Sean Miller is a helluva coach, and y’all will be dominate until he leaves back to the east coast.

Round ball.
Only jobs I think Miller would take on the east coast would be Duke, UNC, or UConn. His relationship with Pitt is awful and their aren’t any better jobs on the east coast than Arizona. Maybe Kentucky or Kansas, but they seem pretty set with their coaches.
I honestly couldn’t care less about football. Mike Stoops is such a jackass. He tried some new “intensified” workout program this off-season and FOUR projected defensive starters have torn their ACL. FOUR. What a retard.

Maybe it’s just me, but his swing seems a bit slower, and it seems like he’s trying to start it earlier to compensate (thus the poor pitch recognition). A classic case of “Old player skills”. I hope I’m wrong, because if that’s the case we really can’t expect him to get any better.

He'll improve significantly, but nonetheless likely won't finish the season hitting .250+, much less .287.
A career .295 BAbip in 3579 PA held up against Uggla’s .197 BAbip in 207 PA this season evinces this notion.
I don’t even anticipate that he’ll reach his career-average BAbip of .295; but if – through some improved luck and re-honed skills – he can simply reach a level similar to his .274 BAbip in 2009 (.243/.354/.459 in 668 PA) or his .279 BAbip in 2007 (.245./326/.479 in 728 PA), then we’re still looking at a ~110 OPS+ hitter at second-base.
Uggla’s skill-set is such that he’s going to have to post BAbips in the .320-.330 range (as he did in 2008 and 2010) to be much more than a ~110 OPS+ player, but that level of production would be very welcome to a 2011 Atlanta offense currently being paced by Chipper’s .783 OPS.
