Rome got the day off so Gwinnett picked one up so I wouldn't miss out on some work. Julio Teheran continues to impress even when he isn't all that impressive. He is second in the International League in ERA and the kid is just 20 years old. Mycal Jones had a nice night, especially for how raw he is supposed to be. Lynchburg had a walk off win from the last hitter in the lineup.
Gwinnett Braves 6, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3 - Game 1, 7 Innings
- Jose Constanza LF - 2-4, SB(11), .297 Avg
- Stefan Gartrell RF - 3-5, 3 2B, 4 RBI, .280 Avg
- Julio Teheran 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R(0ER), 2 BB, 6 K, 1.65 ERA, 108 PI
- Cory Gearrin 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 3.38 ERA
Julio Teheran came out firing today allowing just one unearned run. Even with the stat line dominance it wasn't his most dominating outing. He allowed at least one runner in every inning and he hit a batter. His command is still coming along but his stuff is so nasty that it doesn't matter most of the time. Stefan Gartrell has really turned it on lately with hits in eight of his last ten and seven extra base hits in his last seven contests.
Gwinnett Braves 7, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 0 - Game 2, 7 Innings
- Jose Constanza CF - 2-4, 3B, 2 RBI, SB(12), .303 Avg
- Mauro Gomez 1B - 3-4, HR(9), 3 RBI, K, .341 Avg
- Jeff Fiorentino LF - 2-3, HR(1), 2 RBI, K, .667 Avg
- Todd Redmond 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 2.30 ERA, 79 PI
Redmond did his best Jair Jurrjens impersonation tonight by throwing just 79 pitches through six innings of work. His 2.30 ERA is third in the International League and he is also in the top ten in innings pitched and WHIP. This Jeff Fiorentino kid is dominating, we should call him up!
Tomorrow is a scheduled off day for the International League.
Mississippi Braves 5, Tennessee Smookers 10
- Mycal Jones CF - 1-1, HR(1), 3 RBI, 3 BB, .208 Avg
- Matt Kennelly C - 2-4, K, .288 Avg
- Randall Delgado 4.1 IP, 10 H, 10 R, 2 K, 3.86 ERA, 89 PI
Randall Delgado had one of the worst starts of the year from any Braves farmhand. The crazy part of this game is that he set down nine of the first ten batters he faced. He gave up five runs in both the 4th and 5th innings. He gave up three homers, two doubles and a triple. With him allowing no walks I have a feeling that he was probably leaving his pitches up in the zone. He probably got out of whack mechanically and never recovered - if anyone was there I'd love to hear what you saw from him. Mycal Jones had maybe one of the most impressive nights I have seen from a hitter this season.
Willie Kempf will pick up the start against the terribly named Dash.
Winston-Salem Dash 3, Lynchburg Hillcats 4
- Todd Cunningham CF - 2-4, K, .291 Avg
- Adam Milligan LF - 2-3, 2B, RBI, BB, K, .255 Avg
- Keenan Wiley RF - 2-4, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 K, .325 Avg
The Hillcats were down for most of this game after Chris Masters had another sub-par start (he has given up three runs or more in three straight starts after not allowing more than two in another appearance before that). But the bats came alive in the bottom of the 9th. Terdoslavich led off the inning with a double and they proceeded to load the bases when Keenan Wiley (the 9th hitter) came to bat and knocked a walk off triple. Wiley has shown the ability to hit for average so far in his career but he has almost zero power. From what I saw of him he has excellent bat control and if minor league spray charts were still available I believe you would see him using the entire field to get on base. He will be interesting to watch as he moves up the ladder.
Rome Braves - Off Day
Carlos Perez will look to rebound from his last start against the Lexington Legends.
