Simmons and Teheran Lead The Atlanta Braves Minor League Hot Sheet

Andrelton Simmons is all smiles after putting up a 1.095 OPS last week.

This post highlights both the top performers in the Atlanta Braves organization over the last week, and the guys who had the biggest struggles in the last 7 days.

Who's Hot?

  • Andrelton Simmons SS, Lynchburg - 10-21, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 SB - Simmons' goal for this season is to prove that he can hit enough to stay a position player, and with a .311 average and .741 OPS through 20 games he's certainly taking care of that. He was even better this week, hitting .476 with a 1.095 OPS.
  • Julio Teheran RHP, Gwinnett - 2-0, 14 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 13 H, 2 BB, 14 K - Teheran is one of the youngest players in AAA and one of the best prospects in the entire game. While putting up a 1.93 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in winning both of his starts this week he certainly pitched well beyond his years. He was also named the International League's pitcher of the week.
  • JJ Hoover RHP, Mississippi - 0-2, 13 IP, 6 R, 2 ER, 10 H, 3 BB, 11 K - While Teheran picked up 2 wins for his work, Hoover was saddled with 2 losses while pitching slightly better, with a 1.38 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. His defense really let him down, as he was charged with 4 unearned runs this week.
  • Cory Harrilchak OF, Mississippi -9-26, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, SB - After a slow start, Harrilchak turned things around this week, with a .346 average and a 1.029 OPS. He benefited from moving down in the order and has continued to excel defensively both in centerfield and in rightfield.

Honorable Mention:Jordan Schafer, Mauro Gomez, Mike Minor, Gwinnett; Tyler Pastornicky, Paul Clemens, Mississippi; Zeke Spruill, Matt Crim, Dimasther Delgado, Lynchburg; Matt Lipka, Edward Salcedo, Robby Hefflinger, Barrett Kleinknecht, Jakob Dalfonso, Rome

Who's Not?

  • Steve Kent LHP, Rome - 0-2, 10.1 IP, 12, 11 ER, 17 H, 0 BB, 9 K - Kent's starts were near polar opposites, as he gave up 8 earned runs in just 3.1 innings last Monday before giving up 3 earned over 7 frames on Sunday. His 9.58 ERA and 1.65 WHIP were ugly, but he did manage not to walk anyone.
  • Tim Gustafson RHP, Mississippi -0-1, 2.1 IP, 8 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K - Gustafson pitched in just 1 game this week, but a 27.04 ERA and a 4.29 WHIP are going to land you on the Not-Hot list every time.
  • Todd Cunningham, Adam Milligan, LV Ware OF, Lynchburg - 6-57, 3 2B, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 13 K - The Lynchburg outfield worked as a team this week, but unfortunately not in a positive way. The trio his just .105 with an anemic .308 OPS.
  • Stephen Marek RHP, Gwinnett -0-1, 3 G, 2.1 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 K - Marek had been rolling along this season, prompting many to believe he should be in Atlanta's bullpen, but after another dominant appearance in his first game this week, he took a loss and a blown save in his other 2 appearances. His control seemed to fail him, as he put up a 15.45 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP.

Dishonorable Mention: Wilkin Ramirez, Gwinnett; Randall Delgado, Ernesto Mejia, Mississippi; Christian Bethancourt, Elmer Reyes, David Rohm, Rome.
