The Atlanta Braves may not open up their 2011 season at home until tomorrow night, but three of the organization's minor league teams are holding their home openers tonight ... and there's plenty of fanfare to go around.
The Gwinnett Braves will have the Atlanta Braves old skipper throwing out the first pitch. Number-6, Bobby Cox, will get the G-Braves off to a ceremonial start tonight at 7pm. The first 2,000 fans also get a free t-shirt, and if they stay around until the end of the game they'll get fireworks.
Over in Mississippi, the M-Braves will also launch some post-game fireworks, as well as give away a magnetic schedule. Jerious Norwood will stop by to sign autographs on Friday. (Click here for a nice local paper writeup about the M-Braves, with some great pictures.)
The Rome Braves will be giving away magnetic schedules, but the real attraction is on the field as the fans will be treated to the enormous eye-black of Bryce Harper, playing for the visiting Hagerstown Suns. Might be worth a trip up to Rome this weekend to take in a game, see the super-phenom as well as our own talented middle infield prospects, Matt Lipka and Edward Salcedo, who will take the field for Rome. Hat night on Friday, Fireworks on Saturday.
The Lynchburg Hillcats, the organization's newest affiliate team, will open their home schedule next week.
