Brooks Conrad vs David Ross
There was something about last night lost that bother me a lot. In the 6th inning with the bases loaded Fredi put Conrad to bat for the pitcher which might have been the right decision. I don't know the splits of Conrad against Sanchez (or maybe the kind of pitcher Sanchez is) and he might have been the best pinch hitter in that situation. But as people have mention before David Ross to me seems like is very seldom used in those kind of situations where the game is on the line or his AB might make an impact on the game...
I actually like Conrad and he has deliver some clutch hits for the Braves but I believe Ross could do the same if given the opportunity. I am not going to bring up the numbers since David Ross are much better than Conrad across the board. I am mostly looking at Ross two years with the Braves (09 and 10) and Conrad last year (since 09 was a small sample size and since it was a horrible year people will say so) but even if you look at Ross numbers for his entire career witch are not as good as the last two years they are better than Conrad numbers.
Conrad is also not a young guys compared to Ross so is not like they are developing him or something. I can not think of any reason why not use Ross more. Is it because they want to keep fresh for when he has to give Mc a day off? I know there is a lot of smart people on this site and you can tell me what the reason is or if is just in my head but again it really bothers me.
One more thing, I know that tonight Conrad almost had the game winning hit if it wasn't for a great defensive play and I don't want to make this a thread about tonights AB, I want to know why Ross is not getting more of those kind of pinch hitting opportunities.

They don’t use Ross much as a pinch hitter generally because then if Mac gets hurt we don’t have anybody to play catcher. Even though we called up Boscan, they still wouldn’t go with Ross tonight because a righy pitcher was on the mound.
This
Pretty much sums is up

Yeah...
Check the front page tomorrow morning. Ross kills right-handed pitching. I’m not real happy with Fredi.

stellar Bases Loaded
Conrad was 4 for 9, 2 hr, and 11rbi with the bases loaded. I’d put him in that situation every time. Matter of fact he did rip the ball to RightCenter, but the catch was made by a diving Coughlan.
Luck, SSS, no such thing as clutch, etc., etc., etc.
Just trying to save everyone else some time with this post.

I’ll give you Conrad with the bases loaded every time. Give me Ross, bases loaded or not any time over Conrad.

4-9? Anyone can go 4-9 over a 9-at-bat stretch. Sample Size is everything, and 9 at-bats is small sample size.

That is what is my point...
He has deliver in the past and that is great but I believe was just luck (right place at the right time kind of thing)
Ross gives us a better chance in the future and if we sit him just in case that Mac gets hurt then that is just silly in my opinion.
At least I saw some good points made and again not just talking about last night but for the future.
Thanks

Conrad is who we thought he was….in 2009. 2010 skewed a lot of expectations for him. Holler SSS at me all you want on his stats so far, but I’m not talking about that at all. Conrad is swinging like a high schooler taking batting practice against a major league pitcher. He just doesn’t look like he has any idea what he’s doing up there right now.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
