Looking at a couple of Bowman tweets, it sounds like the Braves were not able to come to a contract agreement with Tommy Hanson for 2011. In the end, they simply renewed his 2010 contract and gave him a raise. Hanson being pre-arbitration, doesn't really have any recourse available to this, but it seems like a possible mistake to me.
I have no clue what numbers were being thrown around by the Braves or Hanson or if Scott Boras was even involved. But unless Tommy was asking for the moon, it seems like the Braves might should have reached an agreement with the guy. Goodness knows, this is probably going to make his arbitrations more of a head-butting affair and I would think an extension just got tougher too.
Eventually, we will find out how much his 2011 salary will be. With Heyward getting $496,500, I wonder what Hanson wanted. What do you think would be a fair salary at this point in Hanson's career? Is Hanson being unreasonable not "coming to agreement" to a pre-arbitration contract? Will this make an extension a problem? Will Wren try to "make it right" and re-negotiate with Hanson mid-season?
