Longoria or Heyward

I would just like to start off by saying that I am in no way rosterbating, or suggesting we somehow acquire Evan Longoria. I am simply wondering whether you guys would rather have Longoria or Jason Heyward on your team. Another thing is that I am not well educated on sabermetrics like most of you, so forgive me for using simpler stats. Feel free to discuss the advanced stats in the comments.

Now to the post.  Me and my friend were having a discussion recently about this, and I would like to know your opinions. Evan Longoria is one of if not the best 3rd basemen in baseball. And his contract is very team friendly. He is currently 25 years old and is signed through 2016, when he will be 31 I believe. He is very slick on defense, and very good with the bat. His 22 homers last year was the least he had in his 3 seasons, with 33 being his highest. His lowest OPS was .874 in his rookie season, but he has never passed .900. But he is very capable of doing so. He is also pretty good on the basepaths, stealing 31 and only being caught 5 times in 3 years. His career WAR according to Baseball Reference is 18.1, which is an average of almost 6.1 per year.

Now for Jason Heyward. I probably don't have to explain much about him for you guys, but I will anyways, just so it can be an easier comparison between the 2. Heyward is 21 years old, and is under team control until 2016. He become arb eligible in 2013. So for those few seasons, he probably will be getting paid more than Longoria. You guys know what he can do. 18 homers, .849 OPS, and an OBP of nearly .400. All of this as a 20 year old rookie who played for about a month and a half with a crappy thumb. Who knows what he is capable of if he can stay healthy. He is also very good in right field. Some might even say he is capable of playing centerfield. He stole 11 bases last year, but was caught 6 times. Heyward had a WAR of 4.4 last year, again according to Baseball Reference, which is higher than Longoria's rookie season.

So there is it. Who would you pick? If I told you to disregard salary because it will be the same each year for both of them, then who is your choice?
