They both have options left so they didn’t have to clear waivers to go back to the minors. The only reason they’d be available is if the Braves were trying to remove them from the 40-man roster.

There are currently technically 41 people on the 40-man roster, presumably because Jairo Asencio remains on the restricted list (which he’ll have to come off of before the season starts, even if he does go to the minors). There are two obvious people to remove, though, before Hyde and Ortegano.

This BS about Billy Wagner and his retirement papers needs to come to an end; the Braves can void his contract because he didn’t show up to spring training, and they need to do so. It was no big deal all winter to have him hanging around on the roster, but now we need the spot and shouldn’t have to pay for Wagner or his agent’s failure to file whatever papers are necessary. And Kris Medlen goes on the 60-day DL. That gets you back under 40, and even gives you room to add Ed Lucas if he’s going to make the team.

Anyone know why Hyde and Ortegano were even available to be claimed?
