Braves Spring Training Games 23 & 24
Let's play two! The Braves take on the Mets at Champion Stadium, with the game airing on CSS in Atlanta. Here's the Braves lineup:
- Martin Prado, LF
- Nate McLouth, CF
- Chipper Jones, 3B
- Jason Heyward, RF
- David Ross, C
- Freddie Freeman, 1B
- Brooks Conrad, 2B
- Brandon Hicks, SS
- Rodrigo Lopez, P
Following Lopez on the mound will be Scott Linebrink, George Sherrill, and Craig Kimbrel (working on back to back days for the first time this spring). Mike Minor will be pitching in a minor league game on the Disney back fields.
The Braves will split their squad and take a second team west to Lakeland to play the Tigers. Here is the Atlanta lineup for that game:
- Jordan Schafer, CF
- Alex Gonzalez, SS
- Brian McCann, C
- Dan Uggla, 2B
- Eric Hinske, 1B
- Wilkin Ramirez, DH
- Joe Mather, RF
- Matt Young, LF
- Ed Lucas, 3B
Brandon Beachy will be starting that game, and he'll be followed by Peter Moylan and Scott Proctor (look out!).

Bottom of the 1st
Prado grounds to 3rd
McLouth grounds to 1st
Chipper hits a long double off the wall in center
Heyward walks
Ross grounds into a forceout, short to second.

It was almost out of here
Just a couple feet down the wall, right at the longest part of the yard.
I love it, I just hope he doesn’t run out of gas. I get the feeling he might be running kind of hard right now to prove that he’s over his injury.

It's a beautiful day here in the South
many are probably out and about enjoying the day!

You have all day to enjoy the weather
but only a couple of hours to enjoy baseball. ;)
It is really nice out though. Gonna grill up some steaks and elote later… yum.

Ahh! The smells of summer. The only bad thing about this kind of weather is pollen.

Lovebugs are pretty bad too. They’re usually not bad in Georgia, but in Florida they’re awful, and I usually vacation in Florida every year. I really don’t want you mating on my arm, thanks. Get a room.

ahhh When you commented I just noticed that half of my sentence is missing….. it was supposed to be Get to see him play a lot more in a set position.
I didnt mind him playing so many positions last year cause we needed him to but Id prefer to see him in a set position.
But
he’ll be bouncing between LF and 3B on a pretty regular basis, unless Chipper goes out for the season (in which case he’ll be a semi-permanent fixture at the hot corner).

I liked how Chipper was wearing his pant legs high at the beginning of ST but he hasnt been wearing like that recently anymore has he?
He decided the low-tops weren't working
and he doesn’t like to wear stirrups and high-tops, if I recall right.

If they don't perform
we’re going to bring in other talent. So in that regard, no, I’m not worried. We’ve got plenty of young arms that can do better.

Experience
is one of those intangibles the Braves believe in. I’m OK with them trying that out, since they know more about running a team than I do. :)
Fredi’s comments about Marek et. al. have me convinced that he’ll petition to bring those guys up as soon as they’re ready and/or needed, so it’s not that big a deal to me.

In George Sherrill's disaster season of a 6.69 ERA
Lefty’s had a .573 OPS against him
Torre had him pitch to more righty’s than lefty’s for some reason.
His career plantoon splits are
vs LHB .500 OPS
vs RHB .800 OPS
He should be fine.
That Heyward guy is pretty good.

You know, this game’s Adjusted Dan Uggla Ratio (ADUR) has been woefully small.
LIVE EDT

What's the formula look like for that?
And how does Heap figure into the calculations?
"…the umps in San Francisco somehow missed Brooks Conrad’s tag at second base on a sliding Buster Posey, who could’ve been called out from a houseboat in Sausalito."
-- Tommy Craggs
I’m glad you asked, young citizen!
Simply put, ADUR measures how much of any given game is enhanced by the appearance of Dan “The Speedy Arlington Imp” Uggla. For game x that contains no Uggla, my interest level is at a logical low limit (we won’t give it a zero value, because hey, I’m still watching this game). We’ll say that lower threshold is five. Then, for games where Uggla occupies second base for all nine innings, my interest would rank a 100, the theoretical upper limit of the ADUR scale.
In interleague play where Uggla might be DH and therefore not on camera often, the ADUR would be somewhere in the middle, perhaps a 40-50 value.
Calculating Brian McCann’s value to a televised game as relates to ADUR is an inherently difficult process. I’ve got my best people working on that formula, since it hasn’t been tested in the regular season. There’s a distinct possibility my occipital lobe could be short-circuited by both of them in home Braves unis for a three-hour duration.

are we going to need to have a med crew on standby?
"…the umps in San Francisco somehow missed Brooks Conrad’s tag at second base on a sliding Buster Posey, who could’ve been called out from a houseboat in Sausalito."
-- Tommy Craggs
That’s always been a bit of a conundrum for me. Last year, McCann hit a beautiful home run against us in the April series at San Francisco. I couldn’t stay mad at him. It was impossible.
That said, it’s always hard to watch the Braves beat the Giants. I think I would probably get angry until McCann or Uggla does something endearing and everything goes back to normal.
