But now, with rent-an-outfielder Rick Ankiel gone, McLouth is back atop the depth chart. Should he falter, the Braves' only in-house option is one-time prospect Jordan Schafer, who has spent the last two years in the Wilderness and has either lost his compass or doesn't know how to use one.
Rob Neyer's Braves Spring Training Question of the Day
The article doesn't much that we haven't already covered, but I thought quote was interesting.

I would have to disagree on schafer being the only in-house option for CF

I’m guessing Mather or Young, I think they’re on the 40 man.
Morgan: Do you think I could come into the clubhouse after the game and display my ass for both those veterans and the younger guys?
Baker: Well, Joe, you are on the payroll of the team, and you're a legend, so I suppose — holy shit!
[Joe has appeared next to Dusty, in the dugout, completely naked]
Morgan: Hey.
I would assume Neyer is referring to more 'permanent' options.
But I could be wrong.

It’s a stretch to call Mather or Young an in-house option to start in center field every day.

No argument, but they are “in-house”. Not like Ankiel was a world-beater. If Neyer is saying CF depth is weak … well, then, no shit.

I'm guessing....
we could do a lot worse than Matt Young starting every day in CF. His defense is adequate and I think he probably would hit .275 and steal 25 bases for the Braves in a full season. Nothing fancy but I wouldn’t mind seeing what the guy can do. I know his size and numbers aren’t fantastic but I’m betting his average season would eclipse Mclouths sucky season of last year.
I can’t really name a starting CF on a contender worse than Young, so I don’t know if we could. Good thing McLouth will be there anyway, and we have pieces to trade if he falters.

But who would we trade for?
it’s not like top notch CFs are cheap, or realistically available at anything other than an extreme premium.

We wouldn’t be getting anything top notch, but at least starting caliber. Someone like Mike Cameron for instance. I’m sure others will be available and Wren would be able to land one if needed.
