Atlanta Braves Make First Spring Training Roster Cuts

Stay connected for news and updates

From the Braves press room comes the first round of spring training roster cuts:

The Atlanta Braves trimmed their spring roster by 14 players today, optioning four players and re-assigning 10 others. Right-handed pitcher Erik Cordier and left-handed pitchers Lee Hyde and Jose Ortegano were optioned to Gwinnett (AAA), while right-handed pitcher Randall Delgado was optioned to Mississippi (AA).

The 10 players who were re-assigned to minor league camp include right-handed pitchers Michael Broadway, Jay Sborz, Julio Teheran and Arodys Vizcaino, left-handed pitcher Brett Oberholtzer, catchers Christian Bethancourt, Braeden Schlehuber and Jesus Sucre, infielder Tyler Pastornicky and outfielder Mycal Jones.

Not many surprises, though I thought Hyde might stay around longer. Delgado, Oberholtzer, Teheran, and Vizcaino would have probably stayed around longer, but they need to start stretching their arms out to start. Sborz never really got a chance, did he? Would have like to have seen salt and pepper (Pastornicky and Jones) stay around a little longer too. That's a lot of players for a first cut, more than I remember in years past, though maybe I'm misremembering.

MTM tomorrow.
