The next step towards real actual Atlanta Braves baseball starts today as Fredi Gonzalez makes his spring training managerial debut against the Mets in Port St. Lucie. Today's Braves lineup:
- Jordan Schafer, DH
- Nate McLouth, CF
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Brian McCann, C
- Eric Hinske, LF
- Freddie Freeman, 1B
- Brooks Conrad, 2B
- Brandon Hicks, 3B
- Diory Hernandez, SS
The Braves will start Jair Jurrjens, and he will be followed on the mound by Eric O’Flaherty, Jonny Venters, Craig Kimbrel, Cristhian Martinez, Anthony Varvaro, and Stephen Marek. Braves have also brought along Randall Delgado and Brett Oberholtzer in case any extra pitchers are needed.

Why in the world would they get 5 at bats a piece??
This is the first game of spring, they usually only play 3 innings each. Schaffer MIGHT get 2 at bats because he’s DH, but McLouth won’t.
I remember reading that gonzales was keeping them in at least Schaffer. I could be wrong wouldn’t be the first time

Need a little feed back….I had Xtra Innings last year and loved it, but this year i was thinking about mlb.tv because i have a ps3 and its cheaper. Will the picture quality be good enough if i get the premium package?
Depends on your internet connection, but yes. It can be as good as HD quality.

I’m staying with Extra Innings. You never have to worry about connectivity issues, you can record on a DVR, and you never have to worry about seeing the score as you log on to watch. I remember I had MLB.tv a few years ago and I’d always see the score before I even started the game.

I love how underrated the whole country has Arizona, UW and FUcla. Maybe if someone actually stayed up past 10pm they’d know about west coast basketball.

And since basically the only advantage that MLB IE had over MLB.tv is that you could watch in on your big screen, this basically makes it one-sided for MLB.tv.
As long as you have a good internet connection, MLB.tv hand down IMO.

It’s fine. I’m kinda that way about both JJ and Hanson. I’m glad we have them, and I’m happy when they experience success, but if they suddenly had season ending injuries tomorrow, I would more lament the loss of Braves’ wins than the personal loss of them. On the other hand, if Prado went out, I would be completely emotionally torn up.

Yeah they need to weasel their way into AHA or something, problem is there’s an open spot in CCHA but with PSU moving up to D1 they’ll probably take that to be with the rest of the Big Ten… and yeah, UAH is nowhere near good enough to support an independent team for long, especially given geography.

Well it’s Spring Training… doesn’t necessarily have to be a LH/RH platoon, just to try to figure out who wants to step up, like having two starting goalies in the NHL.

So, yes, Kotch did show some eptitude at Freeman’s age at all levels.
Kotch was about 2 years more advanced than Freddie currently is though.
Kotch was also a top 25 prospect for 4 straight years, so I don’t know what to make of that.

He was, but
he didn’t develop as a hitter at all since being a top prospect. Always a slick fielder, but the bat never caught up.

Look at the stats from his rookie season. He mashed.
Also, his lowest OPS in 7 minor league seasons: .835

At least KK was valuable and produced. KK actually pitched to the value of his contract in 2009. Last season, in exaclty half a season he pitched to almost exactly half the value of his contract, indicating that he would have been able to fullfill the rest of that value if given the opportunity.
FUGA was just terrible though.
