Quick Question...

What part of NC are you from? I just moved to the Winston-Salem/Greensboro area and can’t get anyone to give me a definitive answer on whether or not I’ll be able to watch Braves games this year without the aid of MLB Extra Innings.

by Michael Scarn, FBI on Feb 22, 2011 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

I'm from neighboring Alamance county

I have TWC and most of the games are on PeachtreeTV, which has its own feed on the Time Warner digital tier. A lot of games will be on SportSouth and the Sunday games will be on Fox Sports. Here in Alamance County the channels on TIme Warner are: 517(Peachtree), 67 SportSouth, 51 Fox Sports. Hope this has been helpful and welcome to NC!

I'm in cumberland county...

And apparently I’m just outside of the Braves TV territory. I don’t get any of the local channels (Peachtree, SportSouth, etc.) carrying the Braves games. I have to get MLB Extra Innings if I want to see any of the games not televised on ESPN, FOX, or the MLB Network. Not sure how things work in your neck of the woods.

by 2Brave2Bscared on Feb 25, 2011 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

Im in greensboro

and i have direct tv, and i was able to watch every game last year (except the pirates game untelevised) during the regular season without mlb extra innings. Either on espn, mlb network, turner south, fox sports south (which is basically same thing but sometimes on another channel) or peachtree tv (which is labled BRVS on the guide),

by austinhb on Feb 25, 2011 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

Just now seeing your question...

I’m in the same area and have Time Warner Cable. I’ve never bought the MLB Extra Innings because it clearly states that these games would be blacked out.

Per Major League Baseball, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals games will be blacked out in the Greensboro and Winston-Salem markets. Cincinnati Reds games will also be blacked out in the Winston-Salem market.

Reds? Go figure.

Fortunately, I can get all Sports South games, national broadcasts and TWCable gives me the Peachtree TV games too.

I have no idea what DirectTV offers.

I’m in Memphis, and they black out the Reds all the way down here too. Their “broadcast territory” must be stupid big. Sadly we can’t count on Selig to get off his duff and do anything about it anytime soon.

I live up in Boone, about an hour and a half from Winston. I use Charter Cable and, while our MLBn Braves games tend to be blacked out, the proper Fox Sports South feed is easily available without much of a premium. Also, it seems like I read somewhere that all Peachtree games this year are also gonna be available on the FSS feed.

The MLB.TV page is boasting “over 150 spring training games,” which isn’t anywhere near the full slate. That’s only ten days worth of full schedule action, and that’s not counting split squad games. Since the calendar on the Braves site doesn’t specifically cite MLB.TV as carrying any of our games, I’d be cautious about throwing money at it for preseason games you won’t be able to pick up anyway.

These are some additional games on TV...

If you have the Sports Package on DirecTV, then you would these games. CSS is not on DTV. MLBN has picked up the broadcast on quite a few games that narrowed down this list.

I'm a little concerned with how this broadcast shedule looks...

from the Braves website:

http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/schedule/broadcast/index.jsp?c_id=atl

Has anyone heard anything else about this year’s TV coverage?

I know...

but normally this page lists every game of the season, along with the broadcast info. I’m just wondering why they haven’t updated it lately.

Can't swear to it

But I’ve heard the regular season Peachtree games will be on CSS as well, Fox SportSouth is carrying the games CSS is not.

Wish I’d seen that before I typed this post!

I heard this:

All the peachtree games would be shown on Fox Sports South and SportsSouth. Maybe that was specific to my cable provider (Knology)

I’d like to hear something substantial to set my mind at ease….

by GumpBrave on Feb 23, 2011 2:32 AM EST up reply actions

The Peachtree games...

were on CSS last year. On Direct TV, you can’t get CSS, but in my area at least, they had a special feed for the Peachtree games (Ch. 651) That’s the only thing that was ever broadcast on that channel. This was the feed which had no commercials, and just had the camera aimed at the infield grass during the breaks. Sometimes you could hear the announcers talking — they obviously didn’t know they were live!

I watched that feed at a buddies house last year, it was different to say the least. I bet it’s been a nice early spring up on that mountain.

It has been nice...

but I wouldn’t be surprised to get snow again before the real spring gets here.

Yeah thats the same feed I had on TWC

Early last season while during a commercial break before the game started, John Smoltz could be heard saying the table they sat on for the introduction sequence “wouldn’t hold up this booty on it.” He was great broadcasting games, I really enjoyed him in the booth.

by CMassey on Feb 24, 2011 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

I loved that and the no commercials. I hope it’s the same way this year too.

But the best part was when the cameraman zoomed in on the gutter (or whatever you want to call it) right beyond 2nd base. It made me wonder where the cameraman gets his “stuff” from…
