The Maple Street Press Atlanta Braves Annual 2011
I promised some additional pages from The Maple Street Press Atlanta Braves Annual 2011, and here is the first bunch. I'll have some player page previews next week, but these two pages will give you a good feel of what the articles will look like.
First up is my interview with new Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez. Yes, David O'Brien may have gotten his interview during a bike ride, but I managed to catch Fredi while we were both hang gliding -- suck on that DOB! Degree of difficulty goes to me. I talked to Fredi for a solid 12 minutes and got to ask him most of the questions I wanted to ask him. The interview is a full six pages long in the Annual with some great stuff in there.
The second page is one that good 'ol RoyHobbs (Danny Hong) put together, and it's a real page turner that recaps every last at-bat victory the Braves had this past season -- my favorite article in the Annual. It's a great way to relive the excitement of 2010.
Remember that you can pre-order the Annual now if you go here, and get $1 off if you use coupon code TALKINGCHOP. Annuals ship on February 17th, and are on newsstands March 1st.

$5.00 shipping?
I think not. Hope it will be available on Amazon.
A whole 5 bucks? Come on Jim…even if you make minimum wage, that’s like 40 minutes of work. And if it’s on Amazon it’ll only save you a dollar or two…just saying.

“even if you make minimum wage”? Looks like FuquaManuel was right!
Amazon Prime shipping is free. Standard Amazon partner shipping is $3.99. Call me Jack Benny, but a buck is a buck. I was actually trying to order two magazines, but the dopey interface wouldn’t let me add a 2011 Red Sox annual to the cart to give to a friend. Couldn’t find where to put the $1 discount code, but that fat 38% postage hit came in loud and clear. In the age of pdf downloads and Kindles, it felt like yesterday’s surcharge..
It’s probably worth the $17-18 and I may yet buy it. The first two pdf’s looked gorgeous. My wife loved Fredi Gonzalez’ smile. Looks like SB Nation has a nice network of photographers. Does the magazine have an up-to-date roster with detailed statistical data (e.g. L/R OPS splits)? Is there a color schedule to keep the yearbook useful throughout the season? If there is a big, detailed minor league section then I’d probably want it, because the depth of prospect coverage at TC is outstanding. Do we get images of Teheran, Vizcaino, Delgado, Perez, Lipka, and Simmons to pique our interest?
What else would justify an $18 investment in a yearbook?
Tell us something we don’t already know! Do we get Dan Uggla’s point of view on other positions he’d be willing to try, if his range at second for the Braves wallows around the Brooks Conrad threshold? Is Fredi Gonzalez really sure Martin Prado can handle left field much better than Uggla would? I’m not asking for anything confidential or Chipper’s MRI’s, just a little more than we already know as regular readers of this site. Do they have an article or two outside the lines which could pop out and cause some lively discussion, e.g. Fredi or Carlos Tosca opining on Cuba, freedom, and the future of baseball there if and when things change?
I’d be proud to add a Braves magazine to the stack of stuff at my reading chair. But with so much information available for free on the web, the price/value strike zone has shrunk for paper goods delivered by snail mail.
Fair enough
And I understand that money is tight. I obviously hope you buy the annual, and as Gondeee said below it’ll be on newsstands if you’re in the southeast.

Ordered mine today.
Looking forward to reading it.

Just ordered!
I’m thinking it will really come in handy at Spring Training. Hiding in last year’s annual is a Hanson rookie card that his mom gave to me personally when I ran into her last year at Spring Training : )
