Serious matchup with the Angels...
In light of the Pujols' signing, the already overcrowed OF of the Angels got even more crowded. They now have 7 worthy candidates to fill 4 spots (3 OF and 1 DH): Bourjous, Wells, Torii, Trout, Abreu, Trumbo, and Morales
They also have 2 SS in Izturis and Aybar.
They probably retracted their offer to Wilson after signing Pujols, therefore putting them in need of a SP. It just so happens we have a plethora of starting pitchers and are in need of an OF and SS. This seems too easy!
Edit: Scratch last paragraph. What in the hell is going on in baseball this offseason?

We’re going to pay Morales to back up FF?
You'd think I was Travis Tritt struttin my FINE ASS on down to Florida
We put him in LF, hope he holds up, or Platoon him with Prado and use him at a backup to FF other days.
He flat out rakes.
Let’s put it this way: he’s a cheaper, better Beltran.
He's also still injured...
…and hasn’t played since early 2010. He just was cleared to do light running. He may be finished, and given the condition of his ankle, I doubt he could play LF at all right now. On the more positive side, he is a non-tender candidate, so we may not have to trade for him.
I understand your concerns, but that sounds like exactly the right time to invest in a player if you believe he has the innate skill to play at the ML level.
Sgt.: Pointed stick? Oh, oh, oh. We want to learn how to defend ourselves against pointed sticks, do we? Getting all high and mighty, eh? Fresh fruit not good enough for you eh? Well I'll tell you something my lad. When you're walking home tonight and some great homicidal maniac comes after you with a bunch of loganberries, don't come crying to me! Now, the passion fruit.
we say this now... but when I mentioned signing Grady Sizemore...
almost everyone thought I was a little loco… too much of an injury risk/wouldn’t be the same guy/blah blah blah…
At least he was playing games last season… I am not opposed to Morales but if we didn’t jump at Grady, why jump at him?
In the body of other posts, I am often admittedly high and tend to not want to edit a lot.

Aybar is an interesting name
Flashy with the glove, but I just don’t think he’s an offensive upgrade over Nicky. Regardless of his veteran presence or not. We’d need prospects in return, great ones, ImO

Aybar is likely much better right now than Pastornicky offensively.
He’s a fairly solid hitter. Remember that we cannot count on Pastornicky to repeat his minor league numbers in the majors or really even come that close. (It could happen, but we can’t count on it.) Aybar, however, would not be easy to obtain, and the Angels apparently are going to buy all their needs instead of trading for them, so I doubt there is a fit there. With Weaver, Haren, E. Santana, and Wilson, they hardly need our pitchers.
First place – the Angels wouldn’t trade Aybar. Second, I like Pastornicky also but to say Aybar wouldn’t be an upgrade to him offensively is just wrong. I’m sorry – you can’t make that kind of analogy between a six-year MLB service player and a prospect whom has only seen about 100 ABs at the AAA level. Pastornicky deserves a shot but let’s be realistic – we don’t know what he will do at the ML level -

was just about to get on and post this
i actually wonder whether trumbo would be a better target for us. could see him becoming a .800 or better ops guy hitting from the right side, who has some limited experience in the outfield. would add some thump to our lineup
Yeah, they got Wilson too, so they don’t really need a pitcher now.

So much for them...
…retracting the offer to Wilson.
A nightly lineup for the Angels:
1. Bourjous
2. Aybar
3. Trumbo
4. Pujols
5. Hunter
6. Trumbo-DH
7. Trout- LF
8. Kendrick
9. Izturis
Bench: Abreu, Wells, Morales
All won’t be well in LA unless there’s a trade.
Just Beachy here. How 'bout you?
Best line from ESPN
To add perspective to the Pujols signing, Arte Moreno paid only $184 million for the Angels franchise in 2003. He will pay Pujols much more than that over the next 10 years.

It's funny money to me...
I don’t like it, but there are no rules limiting spending sprees like this.
This is why I’m a fan of salary caps.
GATA!
No salary cap is one of the reasons MLB has had labor peace for a very long time now. There seems to be a gentleman’s agreement that as long as the owners don’t have a cap, the players won’t strike and a deal will get done.
I’m not anti-cap at all as I think that the cap has helped the NHL and NFL, but it’s not coming to MLB any time soon. Worse than having no cap is that crazy NBA “soft cap” and no cap is definitely better than that nonsense.
Fair.
And I don’t even know how a cap would work at this point given the salaries of some of the teams at the top of the payroll rankings. Seriously, how would they hypothetically handle the salaries of teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Phils, Angels, etc. if there were a cap?
GATA!
Eh, let them have their fun. Baseball has proven time and time again that dollars do not equal wins. Granted that LA has a strong talent core which allows their acquisitions to take them to a higher echelon, but they definitely took a risk. 10 years on Pujols at AAS (average annual salary) of 25.4 mill is not a sure thing from a front-office perspective. The biggest thing it did was create a face of the franchise, and the real benefit to the club is in the marketing, merchandising, prestige, and ability to gain more of the LA market (which I think is the biggest reason.) While these are all inherently valuable, the Braves have done an excellent job of creating the face of the franchise internally (Chipper, B-Mac, The Natural, J-Hey etc) which is almost always going to be a better FO situation.

I think they can justify 10 yrs better than the Cards or Marlins
The man can flat rake, so the last few years he can still be an effective as a DH.

Edgar Martinez
Harold Baines
Etc.
It makes a ton of sense for the Angels, truly. Can you imagine Pujols at 38 playing 1B? Wow.
