Atlanta Braves 2012 Fantasy Camp...Who's going?
My wife and mother-in-law were generous enough this year to pay for me to go to the Braves 2012 Fantasy camp at the end of January (it was a combined birthday/Christmas gift for me, for many years!). I'm pretty excited about the whole thing and can't wait to get down to Florida and suit up for some baseball. It's been 16 years since I played baseball (been playing some softball recently) so it will be fun to get back out there on the field again.
Anyone here on TC going to be attending the Fantasy Camp? When my wife talked to Greg McMichael yesterday he mentioned to her to tell me to bring my golf clubs too, so I guess we'll be getting a little golf in as well.
I was thinking about blogging about the event nightly and taking pictures and video of the whole thing so that people will get to see what it's like first hand.
I hope to see some of you there!
Dave

Wait... This isn't a post about our SS situation... MODS DROP THE BANHAMMER NOW!
Just kidding actually… I just finished catching up on willlinn’s post… My mind melted for a minute…
Anywho, how awesome for you! I would love to do something like that… Alas, I’ve not an athletic bone in my body…. I am one of those all heart and no talent kinda guys… Let me know how it goes and I would definitely be interested to read about your experience. I don’t think I’ve ever actually heard of this… I almost thought I’d read about a fantasy pre-league which piqued my interested, but alas, this is real world fantasy…
Look forward to reading the posts and have a blast!
In the body of other posts, I am often admittedly high and tend to not want to edit a lot.

Color me jealous.
I wish I could afford it. I’d be there every year.
I don’t always find things on TC exciting and gripping, but when they are, I prefer: Duwanis

I know of one other guy that is going who lives up in the northeast. I sold him some photos of some Braves minor leaguers a few years ago.
Some of the Braves Alumni that will be there include Steve Avery, Tom Glavine, Dale Murphy, and Marquis Grissom. There are more that will be attending, I just can’t think of who it is. Here’s the link for the page on the Camp:

I pitched the idea to my girlfriend for Christmas ended up being a no-go. Hopefully I can attend next year as I will be saving up money for it only issue for next year is will I be deployed or not so hopefully I can make it!
In baseball, you're supposed to sit on your ass, spit tobacco, and nod at stupid things. Perfect life might I add.

I would be...
…the chap from the northeast (Vermont) who is heading down. Been setting a little away every month for many years, and when I saw Murph was coming in that sealed the deal. My wife and three year old will be in tow. The thought of my son (whose middle name is Murphy) seeing me IN UNIFORM on the same field as my boyhood hero? No price. Actually, when I asked him if he’d like to see daddy playing for the Braves and out on the field with Murph he started crying. When I asked why he said “I want to to go on the field with Dale Murphy”. :)
Oh, and big thanks to Dave for those photos he spoke of. Got ’em signed in Pawtucket for my son and I, great additions to our collection.
Hope to see some other TC’ers there. Remember to cut the northern boy some slack, I don’t get to play year round.
Now, to work on the waistline before departure…

Yup, great to see that you’re going to be down there Chris. I myself will have my wife, my 11 months old (by then) and mother-in-law in tow with me. We’re going to make it a family thing and can’t wait. I threw a baseball for the first time the other day (after only throwing softballs for the past 15 years) and my elbow was not happy. It’s a work in progress. Now I have to find a good batting cage around here.
Heh, I still play in an over 35 baseball league here in Vermont and my elbow hurts every time I throw. Good thing I play 1st. :)
Fortunately, some guys on another team in our league have some space they use for practices starting in January and they are graciously allowing me to work out with them, so hopefully I can shake off a little rust before heading to Orlando.
My golf game…let’s just hope I’m with three patient and/or drunk partners and it is best ball.

I hear you on the golf game. If I shoot really good I might break into the 90’s, but that has been few and far between. I even put my golf clubs in the attic a couple of weeks ago that’s how little I had been playing and wanting to play. However, I’m always up for going out and hitting a few balls with anyone.
I put that I’d want to play outfield or 3B, so it will be interesting to say the least. I think outfield will be fun as it will allow me to run some and get some exercise. I just have to keep playing tennis and going to the cage and throwing before we head down next month. I can’t believe it’s only a month and a half away!
That’s kind of where I am with the golf. When Greg asked if I wanted to play I said I’d like to participate in everything, but I’m gawd awful. I sold my clubs a few years ago to make room for my son. :)
I’m a 1B by trade, but I realize it’s possible a lot of guys (especially if some 50+ guys play) may have to play there, so I suspect I might see time elsewhere.

I played 1B when I was younger mostly because I could catch anything that was sent my way, and since I was a bigger guy the coaches thought I was slow and couldn’t get to anything at any other position. I hope I get to play the OF as that seems interesting to me…but I’ll play anywhere really.
I’ll play anywhere as well, but as I still play in a baseball league here at home I’d like to get in some work at first. I asked Greg about it, and he said that they are there to make us better players, and that Sid would work with me on the side if I wished. Um, yes, yes I do. :)
