Melky to Giants for Jonathan Sanchez +
BREAKING: @Royals acquire LHPs Jonathan Sanchez and Ryan Verdugo from @SFGiants in exchange for OF Melky Cabrera.
I don't love Sanchez, but wow just hard to believe Melky had any trade value after his stint here. Certainly wouldn't expected enough to get a quality pitcher like Sanchez and another player. Shame we couldn't have spun him off for something like this.

Wow. The Royals actually sold high on Melky
And they got a good pitcher! This is crazy.

If only we'd just kept Melky another year...

somebody please post a GIF of melky's "throw" in cinci on the Giants board lol
Braves.
Falcons.
Gamecocks.
Well Lorenzo Cain definitely won't be available
He is now the Royals starting CF.
Plus their need for JJ just went way down.

There are other teams, and JJ will be more valuable at the deadline. Rosterspace wise I’d rather see him traded this offseason though.
I’ll go back to my thought in the Payroll Thread this morning.
JJ and Prado to Texas for Nelson Cruz. Thank you. Please drive through!

I feel bad for TheLetter
he already had to go through the Melkman once. Now he gets doubled down on it.

I hope SF has some great Cheeseburger joints. I also hope he becomes best friends with the Panda.
I want to see 500 lbs rolling into Atlanta next year.
SF Burgers
Plenty of great places for the Melk-Man to eat his way through SF.
For starters, I’d recommend the Burger Bar in Union Square, followed by late night meatball sandwiches at Tommy’s Joint. He’ll be pushing three bills by February.
If Albert played in the AFL, they’d have to rename it the AZ/NM Fall League, based on where his homers landed.
Our Brilliant "GM" said it best
Its going to be The Kung Fu Panda and Hong Kong Phooey! Surely the Giants will now be unstoppable.
It was a particularly small egg...thats why I asked.

Yeah there are a bunch of Giants fans over at MLBTR
rejoicing about how they won this one…LOL…
I am absolutely baffled how anyone could consider trading a pitcher to get Melky Cabrera as somehow a win….unless that pitcher was Scott Proctor.

I dunno
I’d have done Lowe for Melky, straight up.

To think about it
Melky could have, I suppose, been a back to the back up to the alternate platoon guy….if it freed up 5 million to work with.
…wait, nah, if Prado turns it around then there is no platoon.

Straight up, i.e. no cash
I’d take Melky back onto the team if it meant we freed up another $15MM of payroll. Just let him sit on the 60-day with some mysterious digestive issue.

They rejoiced for getting Melky?? If they think they got a good deal, maybe they should have added Brian Wilson and acquired Frenchy too, then. Winnnnarr!!

The people that should love this more is....
Opposing hitters cuz with Melk patroling center now, the gaps just got a whole lot bigger. I’m prediciting B-Mac hits multiple triples when the braves go to san fran, i’m sure he can’t wait to show off his wheels!!!!!
This
Triples Alley just became a lot wider.

Pun intended?

Giants were considering to non-tender Sanchez
so it’s not that much of a surprised that they move him for Melky
unfortunately for the Braves, Lorenzo Cain is now either more expensive or unlikely to get moved at all
Uh
Why do we care about Cain, exactly? We can do better.

I'd rather overpay Bourn
than replace him with Cain.

That's all they could get for MVP?
Royals got fleeced.
We'll trade you for Cheryl Tunt. Tome again? Still nothing?
See all the comments bashing the Giants, but Sanchez isn’t good either. Mediocre for mediocre is just mediocre.

No, I think he was referring to the dinner plate
as in “he crosses the plate” before devouring everything on it. When it comes to offense, it has come down to praying in San Fran these days.
Then again with Lincecum’s ungodly abilities they need the balance…

So it's like some catholic thing?
Explains the weird throw into centerfield. He was just too hasty trying to go from wallet to watch.

All just PR noise. I was just trying to say Sanchez isn’t anything special either so its not like they gave up much of anything.
True
but I get the feeling he ends up like he was for us, starting a whole bunch of games in CF for them and taking on a significant role.

The Giants won this trade.
Cabrera was coming off a nice season, .305/.339/.470 with 18 HR’s and 20 SB’s.
Sanchez has great stuff but hasn’t put it together at all. He’ll be 29 and is getting expensive. He’s still never thrown 200 innings and has control issues. He wasn’t a dominant pitcher is a pitchers park and if he couldn’t succeed there he probably won’t in Kansas City either.
If they were really smart they’d put him in the bullpen and let him dominate for an inning at a time.

Exactly
The guy has dynamite stuff but has massive control problems. Could be a really good arm in the bullpen though.
Or he could come out and walk every guy he faces, which is the last thing you’d want a starter to do. Either way, at this point it seems like he doesn’t have much of a future as a starter.

I don't think anybody won this trade.
Given the arbitration salaries they are going to get, neither of the players are probably worth their contracts and either could have been non-tender candidates. Melky is coming off a good year, but that will push the salary higher without guaranteeing good production next year. Sanchez isn’t, but he’ll still get too much at arbitration and I am sure the Giants were going to non-tender him. Royals probably have the bigger overpay here, but they got the mediocre prospect, too. I call it a draw.
