Thoughts on Mycal Jones
There is always the possibility that Michael Bourn resigns with the Braves but that's probably not going to happen and we will need someone to play center field in 2013. Frank Wren has been rumored to be looking for future center fielders in a couple trades but there hasn't been a trade and most of the rumors were shot down.
Internally, Jones is probably the only player they would think about playing in 2013 so what do you guys think of Mycal?
He has the defense down pat, he has good speed and pretty good base running success (although it has been going down each of the past three years) but his bat is a question. Do you think he can bring back the power he showed in 2010? Do you think he will continue to cut down on the strike outs?
I just want to get a feel for what you guys think of Mycal after reading the top 5 list, and seeing the interview with him.

I'm rooting for the guy . . .
but he still seems pretty raw at best. However, just based on his advanced age (24, older for a legit prospect), I wouldn’t mind the Braves giving him a shot at winning the job in 2013, provided he makes strides this season.
I think changing positions hurt his development this past year, so maybe we’ll see an improved and more consistent Mycal this year.
I think he is at least a 4th outfielder
His approach got better at the plate this past season and if he can continue to develop that he should be fine. I wrote a post on him at Tomahawk Take earlier so I just wanted to see what you guys thought of him. Thanks

This is the first time I have heard that he is even close to being ready defensively to play CF. I know he is crazy athletic but he hasn’t spent a lot of time out there. Can anyone else support that statement?

Honestly he gets pretty good reads, but the general consensus seems to be he’s a good athlete and can run pretty well so he must be better defensively than every CF we have had between Andruw Jones and Michael Born.

i think Schafer will prove to be a better defender than Bourn…but other than that I hope you are right, if that comes to pass.

If Adam Jones can win a GG
and Nate McLouth, Matt Kemp, etc rely solely on athleticism, Myke Jones can’t be any worse than multiple Gold Glovers.

but Nate McLouth shouldn’t have won a GG, he is not good…and he isn’t that athletic….he is sure handed….he makes all the routine plays and rarely screws up.
Matt Kemp is also supposedly a bad CFer.

Obligatory:
Myke Joooooones!

I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game. It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us. ~Walt Whitman
And just for gits and shiggles...

Right now, he's at best a RH Willie Harris
Can play IF or OF, but hasn’t proven he can hit yet. If he has a good year in AAA he will have a good shot to make the team in 2013.
