Nick Markakis
I just wrote a post on my personal blog discussing Nick Markakis and wondering whether the Braves would be interested in him. I am pretty sure he would make a great left fielder on our team. Since 2006 he has put up some impressive numbers:
- a batting average of .284 or higher
- an on base percentage of .347 or higher
- 12 or more home runs
- at least 147 games
If I was the GM I would try and base it around Jurrjens because I want to keep Prado. How much more do you think it would take for the Orioles to pull the trigger? Is it worth it? Let me know.
Also here is the link to my blog post if you want to read more on the topic.

That’s no upgrade over Prado.. Just a higher OBP.
In baseball, you're supposed to sit on your ass, spit tobacco, and nod at stupid things. Perfect life might I add.

I agree!
Plus he makes 10 mil + and is a lefty. If we are going to deal a deal for an O’s Of’er, why wouldn’t it be Adam Jones? Younger, can play CF, makes less, and has 20+ hr power. Although the OBP isn’t good.
Correct although I doubt the Orioles want to move him but that makes more sense.

I thought about Jones
but the OBP really killed that one for me. It’s definitely a long shot given the contract and him being left handed. But I am not suggesting trading Prado. I am suggesting trading Jurrjens. I am just used to Prado being thrown in with Braves trade talks.

I think you might be underrating Markakis
He has hit for a higher average much longer than Prado, which shows he can do it year in and year out.
Career Totals:
OBP:
Markakis- .365
Prado- .341
AVG:
Markakis- .297
Prado- .293
wOBA:
Markakis- .356
Prado- .337
ISO:
Markakis- .158
Prado- .141
ISO doesn’t mean as much when comparing these two because Markakis’ power is declining while Prado’s is going to be increasing. I am not trying to rag on Prado. He’s my favorite player on the team, and I have put up a few posts about not trading him. But Markakis is better than a lot of people think. And the stats I used in this fan post are his minimums over the past 6 years

Yep
Didn’t realize this at first, but the money is definitely a deal breaker.

He looked for all the world like he was going to be a superstar...
…and then the power regressed instead of progressing. In the interim, however, he got paid like he was going to be a superstar. He’s a solid player, but not worth the salary and prospects it would take to get him.
those differences
are not as big as you’re making it seem.

ummm
a higher OBP IS an upgrade….

I like Markakis
He’s a good player and a nice guy, I played against him back in high school and he was always a pretty classy dude. At the amount he’s getting paid though it’s just not a great idea, as he’s only a little better hitter than Prado and far less versatile. I think Adam Jones is a no fly also, but who knows in the right deal. I wouldn’t mind swiping Robert Andino and Xavier Avery from the O’s though.

Why the love for Andino?
He’s a good-field no-hit SS, basically Alex Gonzalez without Gonzo’s occasional power. He’s not particularly young either. He’s probably available cheaply, but then again, there’s a reason for this.
Price and versatility
He doesn’t cost a lot, should cost much to get and can be a competent utility man when Pastornicky or Simmons are ready. The fact that we were talking about the O’s made me think of him though. I really like Macier Izuris and Brendan Ryan more as trade targets.

I guess I don't get giving anything for this type of player...
…when we can sign someone for little money and lose no players like Jack Wilson or something. Then again, if we are trading a C- kind of prospect it doesn’t really matter too much. Honestly, they are all more or less the same, and I don’t care which one we get.
Adam Jones
This is the guy I’ve wanted for awhile. He’s gonna end up in a COF spot so why not put him in left. Would JJ, Spruill, and Terdo be enough for AJ and a lower ranked prospect such as Connor Narron?
Why all the Adam Jones love?
His CF defense is poor. He can’t take a walk to save his life, making his OBP pretty low. He has a bit of power and a bit of speed, but he’s basically all tools and little skills. He already 26 now so it isn’t like he is super young and likely to improve significantly. He’s like Juan Samuel Mach 2.
So... I don't have a badge... and I don't try to be a jerk...
but i’ve heard of this thing called a rosterbation thread… and this really fits the mold of something I would read in there… I really love this site but I would like to take this time to say if we have a post of every possible player in baseball who might be a good fit for baseball on our FanPost corner… There will be alot of content missed on this site that I feel is more relevant to the world of Braves Baseball…
I respect your opinion and freedom to post whereever you want… but please consider for future posts the wonderful thread of rosterbation that is inherently always in need of well thought out posts such as this. Don’t feel like you have to be a snowflake and fly off on your own… This is not a unique thought and there is a home for all those snowflakes in the Rosterbation snow globe…
Thank you for your consideration.
Don’t worry about older women until you turn 22. It’s called the Saltalamacchia.

Thank you.
Thought I was gonna have to be the bad guy again. We’ve already lost a couple of very interesting threads due to all of these superfluous posts.
If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.
