While Reyes may sign...
I don’t see them inking Pujols.
That said, if they both sign, the NL East, if it isn’t already, will be the best division in baseball (read: hardest).

wouldn't that be great!!
The marlins would be cursed and we wouldnt have to worry about them for as long as Pujols is with the team
Hey, you forgot
…Mark Buehrle.

Not gonna happen
Even IF the Marlins have $35M to spend, that won’t cover both Reyes and Pujols. I can see Reyes signing for around a 4yr/$85M deal and Hanley moving to 2B/3B, but Pujols coming to Miami? With a firebrand manager, restricted money and being in what’s becoming baseball’s best division with the Phillies’ payroll and the Braves’ and Nat’s young talent emerging, it doesn’t seem Albert friendly.
That said, if it does happen, god help us all.
Reyes might very well do it (though Milwaukee is a better baseball decision), but I just can’t see Albert doing that: Loria is just as likely to gut the payroll and dump everybody in 3 more years. I gotta believe he understands the value of a first-class organization… and Loria’s Marlins aren’t that.
(Of course I also would never want to see a lineup of Reyes, LoMo, Pujols, Stantion, and Ramirez in it — short of an All-Star game).

You forgot some key cogs to that lineup.

I meant a key cog,
Also, I wonder what would come of Gabby Sanchez, he isn’t a slouch by no means, but he def. is not Pujols. If somehow another Miami Team pulled off a FA class like this you could very well see a lineup of:
Reyes SS
Hanley 3B
Pujols 1st
Stanton RF
Lomo LF
Buck C
Infante 2B
Cameron/Coghlan /Bonifacio CF
Then possibly Gabby coming off the Bench , ALONG with Super UtilityMan/Pinch Runner Emilio Bonifacio. Then Dominguez The rookie 3B/OF on the bench possibly too.
Oh wow. Then you got some guy named Josh Johnson pitching every 5th day, along with possibly Javier V. and Mark Buerhle (sp?) there along with R. Nolasco, and the other pitcher whose name always escapes my mind, or possibly Volstad if one of those guys are not there.
The weak point of that team would be their BP, but there they still got Sanchez, and Nunez, if available, Dunn, Ryan Webb, I beleive, and that other good releiver whose name escapes me also lol.
Quite the team they would be assembling, but I think it is more an effort to show the new fans that they are “trying.” I really beleive they might get Mark B, and Reyes, which would slide Gabby in at first, and they would still be a very solid team, possibly on paper, an almost playoff caliber team. Like I said, though , I think Pujols will def. not go to the Marlins. I, personally, think he stays in St. Louis, given they hire Pujols choice of a quality coach. Which I personally think he wants Oquendo, but I guess we will see.
With the Braves making rumblings, The Phillies opening up their greedy seemingly endless pockets, and now the Marlins and Nats "significantly raising or willing to raise their payrolls, The NL East is definitely the HOT topic of conversation around MLB.
It is definitely going to be one heck of an off-season, seeing where all these quality players end up (Wilson, Madsen, J-Roll, Reyes, Capps, Cuddyer, Furcal, Willingham, Dejesus, Nathan, H.Bell, Beltran, Buerhle, Sizemore, DeRosa, Coco Crisp, Cespedes, Kelly Johnson, Orlando Cabrera, Pete Orr, Broxton, Aaron Hill, Derek Lee, Ryan Ludwick, Bruce Chen, Dan Wheeler, David Ortiz, Damon, Ordonez, Carlos Guillen, A. Jones, Eric Chavez, M.Reynolds, Juan Pierre, and Haracio Ramirez)
And where the TWO MEGA-Stars end up (Fielder and Pujols). I would say three, but with Beltran’s and Reyes’ health concerns, I cannot call them elite until they can prove to be healthy a full season at this point in their respective careers

That would be awesome. We could then trade for Pujols with spare parts and probably get cash in return lol.
The Pirates are not going to trade Andrew McCutchen - please stop suggesting this.

Freeman can move to LF, right?
sigh….
Bourn, Heyward, Pujols, McCann, Uggla, Freeman, Jones, SS that doesn’t strike out 23% of the time….
nice dream lineup to have.

The Marlins just want to fill up that new stadium
Anybody they sign could get dealt in the next couple seasons if things aren’t working. Look at the Twins, they increased their payroll over the last couple years after Target Field opened but are now cutting back down to previous levels.
