Braves AFL Update
As most of you know, the Arizona Fall League is in full swing with most teams having played 4 or 5 games. I was curious to see how the Braves players were doing so far, all of which are on the Surprise Saguaros, and I thought I would share my findings with the class.
Stats after the jump
We will start off with Batters and then go to Pitchers. Keep in mind that players don't play regularly so that everyone gets a chance, like Little League.
The team is 4-0 and includes big prospects like Jeremy Jeffress, Wil Myers, Tim Beckham, Matt Dominguez, and Mikie Mahtook.
Batters
Joey Terdoslavich- He leads the AFL in AVG, going 5/8 with 2 Doubles, 1 BB, and 1 K.
Todd Cunningham- Has gone 2/8, Double, 1 BB, and 1 K
Christian Bethancourt- Has gone 4/7 with 1 K
Pitchers
Sean Gilmartin- 3 IP, 3 R, 1 K, 1 BB
Erik Cordier- 2 IP, 0 R, 1 K, 2 BB
JJ Hoover- 1.2 IP, 1 R, 0 K, 0 BB
Billy Bullock- 1 IP, 1 R, 1 BB
Thoughts
- It is great to see Bethancourt hitting so well against good competition! I expected him to struggle a bit, but if he keeps this up he will could split the season between Mississippi and Gwinnett.
- Joey Terdoslavich continues his hitting and extra base power. He has definitely brought himself into the conversation of Braves top hitting prospects.
- Sean Gimartin is not off to a hot start. It was only one bad outing and I expect him to have a solid AFL. Will probably start the year in Mississippi.

Pitching
The numbers are usually inflated due to playing in Arizona so I don’t worry bout the pitching stats much
Bethancourt...
at his age, he’s almost surely starting in Lynchburg. The hitting is nice, but more than that, I’d like to see some walks. That’s probably the biggest issue with him at the plate.

Nice to see the hitters doing well
Excited about the continued success of Joey T and the continued improvement(SSS) of Bethancourt
I like the Terd already...
“Normally, I like to take first the pitch every at-bat, but that situation was a little different,” said Terdoslavich
Joey T is currently 5th in the AFL in OPS (hitters league I know).
As of 10-14, check out these lines
Terdoslavich – .529/.556/.824
Bethancourt – .500/.500/.563
Cunningham – .400/.438/.467
In a small sample, our guys aren’t taking a lot of walks, but it’s hard to be upset with numbers like those.
Good showing by the Braves today with Gilmartin going 4 strong not giving up any runs and striking out 4, Bethancourt hitting his first home run today, if he can start adding some power he becomes a huge prospect
Yessss!
I can’t wait to see Joey Terdoslavich come into the league. Who is the last switch hitting extra base hitting machine we have had? Some guy named Chipper. (Sarcasm) But I can’t wait, this guy is going to have so much hype coming into the league when he does. I wish we could call him up to start the 2012 season, but I know he needs more time in the Minors. Keep it up Joey!

As of October 23rd
Terdoslavich leads the entire AFL in average, hitting .444 so far .
Terdoslavich’s slash line is .444/.487/.639 with 3 doubles, 2 triples, and 0 HR
Braves OF Todd Cunningham is 6th in the league with a .379 AVG
Cunningham’s slash line is .379/.424/.517
Christian Bethancourt is 9th in the league with a .375 average
Bethancourt’s slash line is .375/.394/.531
All 3 are hitting well, but even Alex Gonzalez would laugh at their walk totals. The three of them have combined for just 5 walks in 102 plate appearances.
Freeman isn’t on Heyward’s level in terms of tools, skills, or baseball IQ–but it’s fair to say Freeman has failed to meet the modest expectations in place for him - Capitol Avenue Club (May 28th, 2011)
Hard to say when they're hitting that well...
but would still like to see Terdo and Bethancourt taking more walks.

Definitely
Walks are so important. If Terdo walked a lot more, He would be our top hitting prospect. I think he is right now in my opinion. How good is he in the outfield though, fielding wise?
