As the title says, Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel has been named the Sporting News National League Rookie of the Year for 2011.
This is not THE Rookie of the Year Award, but it's the second big one. It's actually the Rookie of the Year award that Jason Heyward won last year, though he didn't win the ROY given out by the Baseball Writers Association, which is considered THE award. Of course, Kimbrel should win the other ROY as well. Those voting results won't be released until after the World Series.
Voting for Sporting News' 2011 baseball awards was done by major league players, managers and front office executives. Ballots were distributed to all 30 teams, and 289 players, 55 executives and 23 managers participated in the voting.
