Yankees in talks with Andruw Jones
Say it isn't so! Anywhere but the Yankees! I really want to see him return to Atlanta, is Wren actually considering making a run at him or is it just hopeful rosterbation? We need a backup CF and Andruw can still rake better than Nate I hope Wren at least inquires in to what it would take to get him back in to a Braves uniform. What do you guys think? is he out of our range?!

Rather than complainging that it’s not a “fanshot” or “rosterbation” actually enjoy some good ol banter
Some here go to every post they can and get mad cause its not in rosterbation or a fanshot
"I'm gonna get drunk and play video games till my eyes bleed"- It's Always Sunny in Philly
There is a reason those threads are there
These things tend to spread like wildfire and then the more important/meaningful stuff gets pushed off the front page. There is no reason this needs to be its own post. It could easily be a comment in the rosterbation thread. That’s what that thread is there.
And some of us dont enjoy mindless banter like this.
"If I have asthma, they won't let me scuba. And if I can’t scuba, then what’s this all been about?? What am I working toward??"
"You look like you should be married to one of the San Diego Padres."
Sorry
I guess I’ll quit “complainging” and not help a fellow TC’er out with the site guidelines.
gondeee, the authors, and mods have done a great job making this blog one of the best on the web, and that is due in part to the fact that we don’t have 10 new fanposts per day all having to do, for the most part, about the same thing (rosterbation, etc.). That’s why we make a rosterbation thread, and that way we can all use that for our genius ideas and not flood the fanpost section with a bunch of the same garbage, that is what sets this blog apart from many others on the web, that look like they are run by adolescent teenagers.
What's the difference?
If I posted in wrong area my bad I wasn’t sure where it should be :/.

It's pretty short for a fanpost...
but I have to say that I would be a little peeved if he signs in New York, but at least it wouldn’t be in NL East. If the Phillies/Mets got him it would be much more depressing for me. I wouldn’t hate it if he came back to the ATL but I don’t know where his CF defense is at this point.

If McLouth is going to get sent out to play CF on...
…a more or less every day basis, I don’t see why we couldn’t send Andruw out there. Andruw’s speed is long gone, but his ability to read flyballs has always been incredible, and, again, while Andruw may have declined, his arm still must be way ahead of the noodle that McLouth has attached to his left side.
Depending on what the Yanks are offering......
I would love to see him back in a BRAVES uniform, for SURE!!!!!
DON'T STOP 'TIL WE REACH THE TOP!!!!!!!!

Meh.
As long as he doesn’t come here. I wish Philly would sign him, that would be fantastic.
Coming soon: winningugly visits Atlanta, takes dump in royhobbs’ Braves hat.
This I don’t really understand. The likelihood that Chipper plays upwards of 130 games is as low as it has ever been. When he misses, Prado will probably move down to third with a gaping hole being left in the outfield. The center field defense is already very bad, so replacing Prado’s presence in left field with Hinske would leave the Braves with two very sub-par defenders. A defensive replacement for centerfield is necessary, in my opinion. Schafer may end up proving to be worthy of the spot and succeed, but I put the odds against it at this point.

We have more OF depth in-house than SS. I’m more comfortable with JS and Matt Young than Diory and Hicks.

Has Chipper even given a definitive yes to 2011?
The last I remember, he was using ST preparation as a baseline to see if he could even play at all coming in 2011. I don’t actually recall ever seeing him definitively give an answer that “yes I will be back in 2011.” yet.
The fate of Martin Prado, and LF really depend on this outcome.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
"I thoroughly expect to be the Opening Day third baseman," said Jones, who also tempers his chances with realism. "But I have days where I go down in the weight room and I think there’s no way. But today I feel like that there’s no doubt that I’ll be the Opening Day third baseman."
Thanks
I still interpret that there is some doubt there in that quote, considering he does mention that there are days in which he doesn’t think he could, but as we all like to think we know Chipper, I’d say he’s 75/25% going to be coming back.

He's never said definitively he's done either...
and is asking like he’s playing. Although I think we need another starting caliber player off the bench, either for the OF or IF. Someone will miss time, someone will struggle, we’ll need help. I’m not confident in anyone on the bench having to become an everyday starter except Ross. We could use one more player.

you may or may not have noticed, but they can still target minimum salary guys or ones who’d accept a minor league deal (similar to, but hopefully better than, Joe Thurston last year). There’s also a starting pitcher we’ve been trying to move to free up a couple million on the payroll too, which should be more than enough for one, if not two, bench candidates.

I think this is the thing.
We aren’t doing anything until we move KK. And since we do have internal options for pretty much everything, if we don’t move KK, we probably won’t do anything other than the odd Thurston-type signing, although we’ve pretty much already done that, too.
I think it’s a great idea for the Yankees. The Braves likely need more of a defensive presence in the outfield than offensive. He killed left-handed pitching, can play the corners and DH. He’s a better version of Thames for them and could fill a starting role if one of the Yankee outfielders gets injured for a long amount of time. If he performed well and stuck there, it could definitely help his HOF bid as well.

If he doesn't come home (which I hope)...
…you are right, the Yankees are a good fit for him. The stadium is friendly, and he could get significant time as a fourth OF, taking over in case of a injury, and spelling Granderson against lefties when everyone is healthy. I think Andruw could still play center (which he hasn’t since 2008, so we don’t know), but that wouldn’t matter in New York, because they have both Gardner and Granderson who are both plus defensive center fielders.
Heard Colorado was interested to some extent.
Dexter Fowler is recruiting him to come play for the Rockies. He could platoon with any of their OF lefties and probably hit 25 home runs in 400 ABs out there.

Think you could play 1b?

I’m going to say he signs with the Yankees. They narrowed it down to either Jones or Damon, and they don’t need a lefty hitter. Jones can get the most money from NY, but if he wants the most playing time should probably go elsewhere.

At first glance, you would assume so. However, as the fourth outfielder and with another outfielder being the first base backup, he could see a Thome-esque amount of at-bats this season. He should play against most, if not all, lefties at one of the corners or as a DH. If an injury occurs to any of the four positions, he could turn into a full-time player. Seems like a win-win all around.

Well for specifically the Yankees he won’t get to play at the corners or really much as backup first baseman. He would be DH once in a while and OF once in a while, but get Thames like playing time.

The Yankess are a smart franchise and I know for a fact they value statistics heavily. They see Granderson’s .289 wOBA vs. lefties and Gradner’s .332 and know it can be improved by Jones’ .402 mark last year.
