This was not the type of game we expected. Adam Wainwright and Jair Jurrjens looked awful at the start of the game, but Wainwright pulled it together and dominated after a rough first inning. Jair had a terrible day on the mound and will have to pitch much better down the stretch for the Braves to have a chance. The season is winding down and these types of performances after being given a lead are becoming unacceptable, in my opinion.
As mentioned, the Braves had a very productive first inning. Omar Infante singled and advanced to third on two throwing errors. Jason Heyward then singled and Derrek Lee hit a home run three batters later. After that, the offense shut down. Eric Hinske added an RBI single in the ninth.
Scott Proctor and Christian Martinez gave up three runs combined over 1.2 innings. Kyle Farnsworth and Craig Kimbrel pitched perfect innings, and then Kenshin Kawakami let up a home run to Colby Rasmus, his second of the game.
Jurrjens got out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the third, which could have invigorated the offense. Even so, it was against Yadier Molina, Pedro Feliz, and Adam Wainwright -- not exactly "murderer's row."
