Billy Goat Curse
Ignoring the fact that D. Lee is hitting like a backup SS at AAA (.646 OPS since joining ATL), did he bring the curse of the Billy Goat with him from the Cubbies?
I really liked him when he was with the Cubs, but now, not so much.
I would much rather see Freeman out there at 1B, at least he would be getting OJT for next season. I hope we're not entertaining the thought of bringing Lee back next year.

Ha! Seriously? Don’t even worry about that. There’s no way we’d bring him back with Freeman around and ready to go. I think even if Freddie were to suffer some catastrophic injury between now and April (God forbid), we’d be quicker to bring back Glaus than Lee. Lee’s value on the market is probably higher than Glaus’, so not only is Glaus cheaper, but he’s actually contriuted to this team this year before the injuries started to get to him. If worse came to worse, he’s the guy that would be brought back, not Lee.

More This.
What is both surprising and delightful is that spectators are allowed, and even expected, to join in the vocal part of the game.... There is no reason why the field should not try to put the batsman off his stroke at the critical moment by neatly timed disparagements of his wife's fidelity and his mother's respectability. ~George Bernard Shaw
Years ago I saw an article that suggested that the more ex-Cubs you have on the roster, the lower your chances of winning. Can’t say how true that is, but as a former South Side Chicagoan who grew up HATING the Cubs, I would tend to agree. Plus, Derrek Lee was broken to start with. I’d much rather see Freeman at first with Glaus as his backup.
Lee's stats over 17 games with Atlanta
This is not a good set of numbers:
17 games: .228/.313/.333 in 57AB (64 PAs). 15K, 7BB, 0HR, 7 RBI.
Chicago stats:
109 games: .251/.335/.416 in 418AB (475 PAs). 101K, 56BB, 16HR, 56RBI.
Everything is down across the board. Recall, too, that when the trade occurred, we were (almost) all upbeat because he was on a relative tear — over .300 BA since the AS Break.
Probably the most troubling number, though is the 3 GIDP’s. Small Sample Size, but that is a rate nearly double that of his Cub performance this year. It’s especially annoying given the team’s lack of current run production.
It’s time for a change — Freddie or Troy, though I’d really personally prefer to see FF.

break the curse
Call back McGriff. Burn down the press box. Then set Freeman free entirely & give him some starts @ 1st. If he starts to struggle, pull a double switch when the relief pitcher comes in & put in Glaus or Lee.
