Open Thread #138: Braves at Pirates

So much for aspiring for the sweep.  With yesterday's embarrassing loss to the worst team in baseball, and the (fortunate) split in Philadelphia, the Atlanta Braves are clinging to a paltry 0.5 game lead in the NL East's first place position.

The good news is that if there was ever anyone up to the task to stop the losing, it's Tim Hudson.  Nine times this year, Huddy's has taken the hill after a Braves loss, and the team has gone 7-2 in those scenarios.  Furthermore, Huddy's pretty much had his way with the Pirates throughout his career, with 251 Buc-hitters stepping to the plate and hitting a woeful .214/.283/.326 and drawing only 14 unintentional walks against him.  It gets even better in Pittsburgh, with Huddy's numbers jumping to a .186/.248/.232 clip of dominance in their house.

What I'd really like to see today is some sort of ridiculous hot streak beginning for the Braves, much like last year, but instead of it being Javier Vazquez, I'd really love to see Tim Hudson pitch some (real) complete games, starting tonight.  No Braves pitcher this year has thrown a (real, 9.0IP) complete game this year.  It would be great to see Huddy stop that trend tonight, of all times.

This is also the second day in a row that our opposing pitcher's profile picture is shown wearing the hat of another team, as for some people were shown Brian Burres wearing a Toronto Blue Jays hat yesterday.

Braves took early bp today. hit for an hour on the field

Hopefully Braves will figure out Pirates pitches tonight and we will get a lot of runs, although i prefer score 5 runs tonight and 5 tomorrow instead 15 tonight and 2 tomorrow.

Really, i´m not afraid tonight because of the RHP, but tomorrow it`s a LHP

OK, so I missed the weekend's games to be with my family.

However, on the days where I have posted a picture of my new puppy, we have won (all three of them – who cares about small sample size? Not I.).

Therefore, here is a picture of my young Frankie. She will bring us the WINZ.

Rally Joke

A man walked into a doctor’s office and asked the doctor to inspect his leg. The man said, “Here, put your ear to my knee.”

The doctor put his ear to the man’s knee and heard very faintly, “Come on, can I have five bucks, just five bucks?”

The doctor stepped back in horror, and the man said, “I know, but it gets worse. Put your ear to my shin.” The doctor put his ear to the man’s shin and heard very faintly, “Come on, can I have ten bucks, just ten bucks?”

Once again, the doctor stood up, perplexed. The man then said, “If that surprises you, put your ear to my ankle.” The doctor put his ear to the man’s ankle and heard faintly, “Come on, can I have twenty bucks, just twenty bucks?”

The doctor stood up and said, "Well, I can I make just one conclusion.

Your leg is broke in three places."

Last Year in September...

“The Braves went on a 16-3 tear to make a magical run to the NL Wild Card before just coming up short.

But it didn’t start immediately.

That run was immediately preceded by a 3-game sweep by the lowly Reds, who were next to last in the NL Central when they swept the Braves.

Could a 3-game sweep by the Pirates cause a reprise of something similar to the 16-3 run?"

Would be worst than a blow out win. It will piss me off more if they get a walkoff win, plus it will be a huge momentum boost for them not only walking off but taking first place.

Let’s go Marlins, please..
