Open Thread 9/5: Braves at Fish
Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins, Sep 5, 2010 12:10 PM EDT
Win, please. That is all TC asks.
Apparently, neither of our pitchers have a face. That could lead to some control issues, but I'm pretty sure Rick Ankiel will still be swinging away like always.
Lineups in the comments.
First pitch is at 12:10. GO BRAVES!

Braves blackhole: Lowe, McLouth, Ankiel, Glaus, and Farnsworth
Bobby’s thinking: Play them more often than not because they are vets and they can easily get out of their funks. So what it’s been 4 month slump. They are good to go.
Me: Uggggghhhhhh!
by romone_braves91 on Sep 5, 2010 11:44 AM EDT reply actions
McLouth is playing because there is so much territory out there in this park. Any ball into the gaps can be a easy triple.
Ankiel is better at that than McLouth...
I’m thinking the usual Bobby b team Sunday lineup, and he’s giving McLouth one last chance. A couple Ks with an 0-4, and he’s probably done starting. We really need two OF to step up with Heyward from Diaz, Hinske, Melky, Ankiel, and McLouth. That’s one thing we’re missing from a complete team.
In spite of his offense slump, Ankiel covers more territory and WILL actually throw the ball in to attempt a play.
"Curve: The loveliest distance between two points." ~ Mae West
And all the advanced stats have Melky being better in...
CF than McLouth too. He’s 3rd worst at the plate, and in the field so far.
If I were at home(which I'm not, I'm on a road trip, and driving to Pitt right now)
I would have to wake up at 9am to watch this game…thats just unethical
Jason Heyward...great guy
nope
but watched the end to Ole Miss and JState, that was awesome…but I’m way more on an NFL than NCAA guy(reverse that for basketball)
Jason Heyward...great guy

A good question
If we keep resting our starters for the postseason, we may not even make the postseason.
The way the Padres have been playing I don’t think it’s that, but I want to kick the Phillies off of the division crown and get homefield.
Also, Ankiel sure as hell doesn’t need rest. He’s not exactly old.
by Ivan the Great on Sep 5, 2010 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't see what the Padres have to do with it
Their performance doesn’t affect how the Cards do, nor the Giants. Should the Giants’ and Padres’ records cross, we’ll just be playing against the Padres and Rox instead of against the Giants and Rox. And frankly, I wouldn’t want to bet that that the Padres are going to continue this collapse; they could be a very nasty “pennant” contender down the stretch.
Ankiel definitely could use a day off
Even if I’d rather see Melky go to center and Hinske in left. Maybe Bobby is trying to figure out who to use those two extra slots on the playoff roster for (assuming we get in)?
OT: did we get rid of our blue uniforms?
I can’t remember the last time we wore them.

nah
It was said that the curve made his arm angle higher and he lost velocity on all of his pitches and sharpness making him a guy with 4 average pitches. Going back to the slider has given him some more velocity with the lower arm angle and made his stuff sharper

the Show takes up most of my time. Some Madden and FiFA. Just got around to Assain’s Creed- although not that often. And I enjoy GTA 4
Carpe Diaz
Assasins Creed is bad ass
I usually don’t play many sports games except Tiger Woods because there is a new game every year and Madden hasn’t been fun since Vick was on the cover.
You play Tekken or SSFIV?

Tekken 5 Dark Ressurection is bad ass.
Tekken 6 has beautiful graphics but load-times are pretty much making it not worth it to play.
SSFFIV is beaitufl and good load times.

Braves have made some strangest offensive plays this season.
Groundout RBI from 2nd base by Heyward
Double steal (2nd and HP) McCann and Heyward
Run scored from 1st base w/single by Heyward
GS w/3run deficit to win the game by Conrad
and now 2 runs Sac Fly by Mclouth
Random question:
The Marlins bullpen allows an outfielder, on a very, very high hit fly ball, to jump into the bullpen and come down with the ball, despite it not being in the field of play. Provided an outfielder was daring enough to do this, would it be an out?
Their bullpen is in foul territory, not beyond the outfield fence. So by that logic, it would be a foul because it was caught out of play?
by Ivan the Great on Sep 5, 2010 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions
my mistake, i thought it was beyond the fence
its a ground rule then, i assume its designated out of play. because you can go into foul seating to make a catch but never beyond the OF fence, but certain places are dead, i would assume a fenced bullpen is dead
just me
or the mil-phi game going unimaginably slow?
yes i know
but its seems like the last hour and half has gotten us from the end of 4 to the top of 6
Go with what works, eh?

That’s assuming he’s not up again today. Say he gets 4 per game that’s 28 games. 5 is 22 games. He can get there. Also if he’s up in the .340s he may be high enough to factor in some 0fers

And I'm talking plate appearances, not at bats....
I’m pretty sure it’s 3.1 PA per game, not AB. So the 502 is plate appearances, not at bats.
