Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 9/3
Gwinnett 6, Durham 4
Brandon Beachy continues to surprise everyone, tossing 6 scoreless tonight while walking none and striking out 8. When he was dominating out of the bullpen for Mississippi it was easy to say he was getting lucky, when he was dominating as a starter for Mississippi it was easy to say it was a fluke, but after a full season of dominance at the 2 highest levels of the Minor Leagues, a 1.73 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 5.3 K/BB, 11.2 K/9, and 2.1 BB/9, it's impossible not to consider Beachy a prospect, and very good one at that. Antoan Richardson hasn't had much trouble with AAA, going 6-14 with 3 steals in 4 games. Dan Nelson has found AAA easy too, going 4-8 with a homer and 6 RBI in 2 games. Barbaro Canizares hates baseballs.
Mississippi 6, Birmingham 1
Yasser Gomez has a 6 game hitting streak, going 7-22 with 4 walks and 4 RBI in that span. Sean McGill has a 7 game hitting streak, going 10-25 with 3 doubles and 8 RBI in that span. Like most pitchers, when Randall Delgado keeps his walk total low he's successful. He seems to have gotten the hang of AA, with a 2.41 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP in his last 3 starts, striking out 20 in 18.2 innings. Benino Pruneda has been on a roll since the All-Star break, as the little righty has a 1.99 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP, and a whopping 13.9 K/9 in 22.2 innings.
Myrtle Beach - Off
Rome 1, Lexington 0
Steve Kent and Willie Kempf combined on the 5 hit shutout, walking none and striking out 10. After missing a year and a half because of Tommy John surgery, it's taken all the way until the end of the year for Kent to work up the stamina for 5 innings, but his season has been fantastic, with a 0.69 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 6.8 K/BB, 12.4 K/9, and 1.8 BB/9 in 39.1 innings. Willie Kempf has dominated this year as well, with a 1.70 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP in 74.1 innings for the GCL team, Danville, and Rome. Jace Whitmer has had a solid year between Danville and Rome, hitting .279 with a .720 OPS in 215 at bats. Barrett Kleinknecht (pronounced "Kline-connect") was voted Danville's most popular player. He played moslty third for Danville, with a few games at second and shortstop, and he's played second in his 3 starts for Rome.

he couldn’t be any worse than Lowe or KK.

its definitely brandon beachy time
guy looks like a freaking stud, if he can give us what minor has we make the playoffs, straight up, he’s even perfectly synched up with the rotation spot he needs to fill.
It seems pretty unlikely that they call him up.
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it:

only if they obliviously fail to grasp the fierce urgency of the moment, adopt a staid stay the course posture and continue to run Lowe or KK out there – which may be more likely, but sure seems pretty dumb, IMHO.
I don’t disagree a bit, cause I think the best players should be playing, but still, I’d make a good bet they won’t call him up.

What are they waiting for?
Sure, he’s not on 40 man and it’s full w/ 20 pitchers…here’s solution…DROP Ortegano, or release KK.
BTW, Bobby said last night he’d never seen KK pitch so poorly. Not a vote of confidence in a pennant race.
Beachy now could get 5 days rest, then bring him in to take Lowe’s next start. If he does well, run him out again. If not, Lowe, if healthy, gets rest he needs and comes back to the rotation.
KK is 1-10 and crappd the bed last night. With the Phillies on our tail now and a game back,, and Beachy dealing last night, I bet Wren and Bobby are kicking themselves for not bringing Beachy up.
The guy led the minors in ERA with a 1.73 in AA and AAA, was an all-star in AA, and is on fire. Why not catch lightning in a bottle twice (Minor-1st time) and use the hot hand?
At least he could be a long relief option in Atlanta.
Also, Marek is on the 40 man and has dealt all year, he needs to be there too!
MLB hitters have never seen Beachy. Get him 3-4 starts down the stretch and see if we can get quality starts out of him. Heck, out of his 15 starts in the minors, Beachy never gave up more than 2 ER.
He is steady, poised, and dealing…he’d be up for any other MLB team right now!
What are we waiting for?

On Kawakami
"He just couldn’t get in a groove, to locate his pitches. He just never got in a rhythm tonight."
"That’s the worst I’ve ever seen him."
I bet the wheels are turning in the front offices at Turner Field!!!
