Brandon Beachy has the lowest ERA in the Minor Leagues.

Gwinnett 6, Durham 4

  • A. Richardson 3-3, RBI, BB, .429 AVG
  • B. Canizares 3-4, 2 2B, HR (13), 2 RBI, BB, .342 AVG
  • L. Bolivar 4-5, .225 AVG
  • D. Nelson 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI, .500 AVG
  • B. Beachy 6 IP, 0 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 8 K, 2.17 ERA
  • S. Marek 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 K, SV (9), 1.45 ERA
  • Brandon Beachy continues to surprise everyone, tossing 6 scoreless tonight while walking none and striking out 8. When he was dominating out of the bullpen for Mississippi it was easy to say he was getting lucky, when he was dominating as a starter for Mississippi it was easy to say it was a fluke, but after a full season of dominance at the 2 highest levels of the Minor Leagues, a 1.73 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 5.3 K/BB, 11.2 K/9, and 2.1 BB/9, it's impossible not to consider Beachy a prospect, and very good one at that. Antoan Richardson hasn't had much trouble with AAA, going 6-14 with 3 steals in 4 games. Dan Nelson has found AAA easy too, going 4-8 with a homer and 6 RBI in 2 games. Barbaro Canizares hates baseballs.

    Mississippi 6, Birmingham 1

  • Y. Gomez 2-4, 2 RBI, BB, .310 AVG
  • C. Colonel 3-4, 2B, RBI, .318 AVG
  • S. McGill 1-3, 2 RBI, BB, .314 AVG
  • R. Delgado 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 4.74 ERA
  • B. Pruneda 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 3.63 ERA
  • Yasser Gomez has a 6 game hitting streak, going 7-22 with 4 walks and 4 RBI in that span. Sean McGill has a 7 game hitting streak, going 10-25 with 3 doubles and 8 RBI in that span. Like most pitchers, when Randall Delgado keeps his walk total low he's successful. He seems to have gotten the hang of AA, with a 2.41 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP in his last 3 starts, striking out 20 in 18.2 innings. Benino Pruneda has been on a roll since the All-Star break, as the little righty has a 1.99 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP, and a whopping 13.9 K/9 in 22.2 innings.

    Myrtle Beach - Off

    Rome 1, Lexington 0

  • B. Kleinknecht 1-4, 2B, .SB (2), 143 AVG
  • J. Whitmer 1-3, 2B, .280 AVG
  • B. Rauh 1-2, RBI, BB, .205 AVG
  • S. Kent 5 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 6 K, W (2), 0.69 ERA
  • W. Kempf 4 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K, SV (1), 2.06 ERA
  • Steve Kent and Willie Kempf combined on the 5 hit shutout, walking none and striking out 10. After missing a year and a half because of Tommy John surgery, it's taken all the way until the end of the year for Kent to work up the stamina for 5 innings, but his season has been fantastic, with a 0.69 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 6.8 K/BB, 12.4 K/9, and 1.8 BB/9 in 39.1 innings. Willie Kempf has dominated this year as well, with a 1.70 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP in 74.1 innings for the GCL team, Danville, and Rome. Jace Whitmer has had a solid year between Danville and Rome, hitting .279 with a .720 OPS in 215 at bats. Barrett Kleinknecht (pronounced "Kline-connect") was voted Danville's most popular player. He played moslty third for Danville, with a few games at second and shortstop, and he's played second in his 3 starts for Rome.
