The Braves have a decent shot of making the post season, what with SD and SF having 3 games against each other. I know that has been said many times, but I thought I'd run through the scenarios briefly.
Padres, Giants win 2 games before their series.
The the possibilities are SD 92-70, SF 91-71; SF 92-70, SD 91-71; SF 93-69, SD 90-72; SF 94-68, SD 89-73
This means we have to go 3-1, 3-1, 2-2, and 1-3 to guarantee the wild card.
Padres, Giants split games before their series.
Then the possibilities are SD 91-71, SF 90-72; SF 91-71, SD 90-72; SF 92-70, SD 89-73; SF 93-69, SD 88-74
These scenarios mean we have to go 2-2, 2-2, 1-3, and 0-4 to guarantee the wild card.
Padres, Giants both lose 2 games before their series.
Then the possibilities are SD 90-72, SF 89-73; SF 90-72, SD 89-73; SF 91-71, SD 88-74; SF 92-70, SD 87-75
These scenarios are awesome. We would have to go 1-3, 1-3, 0-4, and 0-4 to guarantee the wild card.
Of course, The Padres could win 2 and Giants lose 2, or vice versa, or Padres win 2 and Giants split or vice versa, but those situations would change little. Basically there is no requirement to go 4-0 to clinch, although that would be nice to give us some momentum. Let's hope everything is working together again and we can pull this off!
