Pitching Matchups vs. Philadelphia
Ok so we all know the Phillies clinched last night. who cares right? well it does make things a little more interesting for the weekend.
Last night's starter was Halladay, so on normal rest he would be pitching again on Saturday. However, the playoffs start for them either Wednesday or Thursday so really he could go again and still be on his normal rest. Since he has never pitched in the playoffs would Manuel just give him some extra rest?
Tonight's scheduled starter is Oswalt. if he does pitch tonight, then we will not be seeing him over the weekend. However, as they did clinch last night maybe they take their break today?
Unless they really alter things, we should see Kendrick on Friday. Hamels would be next in their normal order so I would think he'll get in a game otherwise he'll go almost 2 weeks between starts which is probably a little too much rest. Even if he only goes in with a set 5inning/85pitch limit or something.
Basically that leaves Sunday as the biggest question.... unless they do some major shuffling. Is it Halladay? or do they throw Worley up there? he did get one start this year. or Robertson who has started before. You'd have to think those would both be better than Halladay - even in an abbreviated start.
For us... well Beachy is already slated for Friday. Followed by likely Hanson and Hudson in the finale.
I guess a lot of what the Braves do will also depend on how the next couple games go, but it is something worth looking at I thought.

We wouldn’t have to put Hudson and Lowe on short rest. I doubt we see Lowe in this series as Hanson will likely pitch the second game on normal rest (off day on Thursday). Hudson will get the ball in the last game (if we haven’t clinched) and he too will be on normal rest because of Thursday’s off day.
you're right
I was just looking and I miscounted the days. Hudson can go tonight and then again on Sunday with Lowe taking the ball in a playoff or NLDS Game 1.
I’m pretty sure the Phillies want nothing more than to squash the Braves’ playoff chances, so I’d expect them to throw their best out there.
The birth of Jason Heyward was God’s punishment for the sins of the people in New York and Philly.
This
I can’t see the Phillies rolling over for the Braves.
Don't kiss an ass if it's in the process of shitting on you.

can someone straiten this out?
id love a logical explination of whats really going to happen…
i also think they want to squash our playoff chances, i also suspect they want halladay and oswalt ready to pitch game 1 and 2 of their playoff chances..
if you pitch a guy 1st in the 1st game of the playoffs is it easy to linehim up to pitch first in the division series?
logical in what way? I tried breaking things down as best I could. until Manuel actually comes out and says who he is going to put out there there is no way of being sure. The other wild card in it is the Phils don’t know if they’re playing Wednesday or Thursday so – while not likely – that could impact his decision too.
the safe bet is neither Halladay nor Oswalt will pitch this weekend even though they both could go on normal rest because then they would be going to start the playoffs on short rest. so I think I’m going with Kendrick, Hamels, and Blanton as someone mentioned in one of the other threads.
the Braves will go with Beachy, then (from what I’ve seen mentioned) Hanson, and Hudson to leave Lowe to pitch a one game playoff (if necessary) or NLDS Game 1. Then (just to keep the hypotheticals going) you could have Hanson or Hudson in Game 2 then the other in Game 3.
thanks
yea i think th ebiggest statement there is that if they come with oswalt and holliday they will be on short ret going into the playoffs, and being a short series, they wont wanna do that.. i think youre right, we have reason to believe we wont face at leeast one of them
well since I don’t think any would go deep in the games you’re probably right.
the best case now IMO is for the Braves to lock it up before the last day. then you can pitch Minor in a meaningless game and let Huddy get the extra rest.
Oswalt went five last night.
Then was pulled. I agree, I don’t think any of their big three will go beyond five innings.
k i think ive got it pretty figured out...
its kendricks turn to pitch friday, for either oswalt or halladay to pitch they would have to go on short rest, and there is no reason to do so. Whoever did would be ready to pitch game one of the playoffs on regular rest, but that would mean pitching on short rest for a meaningless game.
hamels pitches the second game against us saturday so he is ready next friday to go between halladay and oswalt (putting the lefty between the 2 righties).
if they think they can keep us out of the playoffs with the last game of the season, look for either oswalt or halladay in the third game – because this third pitcher will have more than enough down time to pitch the third game of the post season.. besides, one of them might prefer to as opposed to dealing with too much downtime…or they might be tired and really relish the extra days.. we will see, but i think it would be a mistake to believe we wont be facing hamels and oswalt
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel announced Tuesday that Roy Halladay won’t pitch this weekend in Atlanta. Kyle Kendrick will start Friday’s series opener and Cole Hamels may get a four or five-inning postseason tuneup during one of the final two games of the series.
After limiting himself to 66 pitches in last night’s five-inning outing against the Nationals, Roy Oswalt said that he doesn’t expect to pitch this weekend in Atlanta.

Every thread at The Good Phight......
is like the anti Talkingchop and Braves thread. The fans over there come to this blog, scroll through tons of threads and pick out one or two comments of Braves fans bashing the Phillies (compared to a couple hudred that are purely about the Braves) and then share that with the fans there, and then all of the sudden there’s a ton of messages doing nothing but talking shit about the Braves. I dont understand their mindset. They get to watch the best team in the NL (the Phillies) play every night, they have a great shot at going to the World series and they have the best starting rotation in all of baseball and all they want to do is dish the Braves? I know some fans over here are guilty of the same thing, but when I read the post that WholeCamels, who is a site admin by the way, writes, it makes me cringe. He recently made a post saying “Bobby Cox is so old he gave Moses’s mother the clap.” He may have just been joking, BUT, he would be the first one to say boo if he saw even one comment by aTC user bashing CBP or talk about the deep pockets of the Phils (neither of which bother me, they have money they sould spend it.) So basically I’m saying that I have a ton of respect for The Phillies orginization. They are top notch and do everything the way it should be done, but guys like WholeCamels do nothing but intensify the dislike from the rest of the fans in baseball towards Philadelphia. I’m sure Whole Camels will have plenty of arrogant and snide comments to make about Bobby Cox this weekend, but please no one here go to their site and troll or start anything. Let that idiot write whatever he wants, and lets celebrate Bobby’s last home series here. ……………………….Just for the record I dont hate Phillies fans, my best friend is a Philly fan
Yeah, they really are a classless group. It’s useless trying to have a logical conversation over there because they are so biased. They made an absolutely huge deal about Schuerholz’s joking comment concerning CBP.
Baseball is like church. Many attend but few understand.
not all of them......
I hate to stereotype people. A lot of them seem pretty cool. What bugs me though is how they pick out things TC fans write. They get all upset about fans over here complaining about CBP dimesnions or whatever. Then there is an entire thread over there where they make baseless criticisms about Bobby Cox. And its not legitamite stuff either. It’s not like “well, he overworks his bullpen” or “he doesent ever shake up his lineup.” It’s ridiculous stuff like “Bobby is old an stupid” or “he just bitches about every call”. You see I’ve been to games in Philadelphia, and most people I interacted with were real cool, and pretty smart baseball fans. But Philadelphia sports fans have the worst reputation in all of American sports (because of the puke guy, or the taser guy), and a lot of the stuff I read at TGP does little to contradict that. But when judging Phillies fans, I’ll go with what I saw in person, and not butt hurt bloggers like WholeCamels. Most of them are fine.
That's true
From what I have read over at TGP, WholeCamels sounds like a real tool
