Glavine would be better as a pitching coach. It doesn’t seem he thinks enough like a manager. That is to say, his mindset is that of a pitcher, and because of that, I don’t think he’d make a good manager

This.
I was about to write almost the same thing, but you said it well.

Interesting…but I think chipper would be better.

I mean,
I don’t think it would seriously happen, but I just read “None but the Braves” today, and it sounds like he learned a lot from Bobby, as well as several pitching coaches. Pretty good book, but it just got me thinking about that possibility.
I like people until I meet them.
No experience.

I think it's Fredi's race to lose.
Glavine might be a great manager (who knows?), but as far as I can tell he’s never expressed any interest in a manager job anywhere. I dunno if he’s ever even talked about being a pitching coach for that matter.

In general, pitchers mae terrible managers because they just don’t have the mentality to succeed. Pitchers are used to every fifth day, trotting to the mound, throwing what the catcher tells him to, and going back to the dugout. They are not leaders in any sense, but catchers are. That’s why you see so maný ex-catchers as managers, and basically no pitchers.

Most veteran pitchers call their own games.
