It's the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs and we're down by 1. Men on 2nd and 3rd. This is the game that decides whether or not the Braves go to the playoffs, go to the world series, win the world series...or just the game you bet your girlfriend that if the Braves win, she'll do that thing you've always wanted her to do (and there are no returns accepted on the polar bear costume). Who do you want to be up to bat?
I tried to do a search on stats for individual Braves in late-game situations but couldn't find it. I'm assuming this is out there somewhere because the internet has everything, so maybe someone smarter than I can find it. Heck, maybe that someone has already posted this question long ago and is silently cursing me for trying to steal his poll-making glory. But just in case not...
My initial thought is that I'm going to roll with what I imagine will be the popular choice: Brian McCann. He's our veteran, our perennial all-star, our leader. But what about Derrek Lee? He's been in this league a long time AND won a world series. How about Jason Heyward, who has been GINORMOUS in late-game situations this year? Or our favorite off-the-bench ginger, Brooks Conrad? Finally, I realized what you all are probably thinking right now, that this is the most rhetorical question ever asked. The correct answer is clearly Tommy Hanson.
Who will it be?
