More Evidence That Fredi Gonzalez Will Be The Braves Next Manager

A major league source told FanHouse Tuesday that the Cubs had reached out to [Fredi Gonzalez], the deposed Florida Marlins manager, with an offer of a job interview.
Gonzalez, the source said, told the Cubs thanks, but no thanks.
That certainly adds fuel to the already hot rumor that Gonzalez is the clear front-runner for the Atlanta Braves managerial job once Bobby Cox retires at the end of the season. The Braves won't say anything about their managerial search or even their thinking until after the season, out of respect for Cox. That's the right move by Atlanta, but that won't stop everyone from speculating about who it could be. This certainly seems to indicate that either Fredi may already be in the Atlanta camp, or that may be the only job he would consider at this point.

Are we all of the consensus that Fredi is the right choice?

We need someone with a far more aggressive attitude and a far more open mind than Cox. My choices would be Pendleton or Eddie in that order. I’ll be okay with Fredi, but he’s not the savior too many people seem to think he’ll be.

1991. What he did that year as a player is exactly what this team could use from a manager.
Pretty much anybody is going to be more open to ideas that originated after 1959 than Cox.
I still don’t really see how there’s any proof that Pendleton would be different from Bobby.

He’d be stupid/stubborn/senile enough to run this same dumbass lineup that Cox had gone to for pretty much the last month? The one with Prado out of the spot where he excelled all year and Heyward in a position where he can’t usually drive in more than one run?
I guess it’s possible. He may have already been infected with Coxian lethargy but I seriously doubt it.

I mean, I haven’t even seen anything that tells me he is good at his current job…I haven’t necessarily seen anything bad either but either way I’m not sure he is justified to get a promotion.

Will come the day after my last. I am not alone in that opinion. The very possibility, remote though it is, is one reason that I’m prepared to accept Fredi, even though I’m not that high on him.

I’d be fine with Fredi Gonzalez or Eddie Perez. I just hope Terry Pendelton gets so angry at not getting the job that he quits as hitting coach.

Which works well with all the speed we’ve been drafting lately.
Fredi did a pretty good job managing the Marlins…I mean they did finish ahead of the Braves last year with arguably less talent. Also, it seemed part of the reason he was fired by the Marlins was for staying true to himself and not being who they wanted him to be which is always a good thing.
