Braves To Continue Tenerife Academy
Mister Baseball has the latest on the Braves European player development project:
The Atlanta Braves will continue their Baseball Academy and Instructional League on Tenerife according to a report on the website of the Canary Baseball and Softball Federation website. The new agreement was signed by the city of Puerto de la Cruz, the Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation and the Canary Federation and now only is pending the final approval of the Canary Government.
Glad to hear. I believe there were a couple of players from that academy who played in the GCL this year, or at least came over to the states (I thought I read that somewhere, but I can't seem to find out who). If nothing else it helps cultivate a spot in what could be the next big region for prospects in the coming decade.
Some great picture links (courtesy of Mister Baseball) are here, here, and here.

GREAT, as this investment has already paid off,...
and hopefully will do more in the future. And gondee, I don’t think this is all the names we’ve signed from there, but we did have one in GCL and a 4 with the DSL clubs. Alejandro Sanchez signed as a SS, and played all over the infield for GCL, but only hit .174 in 25 at bats, with 1 triple, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 SB, and a .501 ops as an 18 year old (June 92). He may have been injured along the way, as he didn’t play from July 28 to August 26. The 4 DSL players are Deion Galvan 17 year old lefty OF (Nov 92), Ruben Rijkhof (April 92) who signed as an OF but is listed as a DH on the DSL roster, and catchers Victor Velazquez (Aug 92) and Roberto Machado (Sep 92).
Galvan had a .403 ops, 6 hits in 47 at bats, 1 double, 8 walks, 12 Ks, 3 steals with 4 caught stealing.
Rijkhof also struggled , 1 hit in 12 at bats, with 2 SB, 8 K and 4 BB.
Machado had 1 at bat and 1 BB in his only game.
And Velazquez continued the theme of struggles, 21 at bats in 7 games, 8 K, 3 BB, a single and 1 RBI.
And from the pics, any chance this guy knows where the ball is gonna go?
Sanchez was hurt a lot. He had a lot of little nagging injuries that came from him just not being experienced with the pro game and what he needed to do to prepare for it on a daily basis.
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it:

Thanks for the info...
I’m thinking highly of him right now, and hope to see something from him next season if only because he was the one player of the 5 that the organization felt strongly enough about to have him in Orlando instead of the Dominican.
