Open Thread overflow: Braves vs. Cards
Score's tied 3-3 thanks to shoddy defense. Venters gets a BS unfortunately, Hanson gets a ND, now.
Scene is set up for the last at-bat win again!

Over the last few games…
McCann seems to be back,
DLee has been hot,
McLouth has been hot
Heyward has been hot,
Omar is just Omar,
Prado is coming back…
good signs.
Just need to figure out what to do with sea bass and MVP…
Prado seems to be getting worse on defense, though.

In the words of the Book:
Thou shalt never bring thy closer into a tie game on the road, regardless of the leverage of the situation, and regardless of whether Jesse Chavez has just walked the bases loaded without recording an out in extra innings.
Thou shalt occasionally bring thy closer into tie games at home.
Thou shalt not consider whether the two last-mentioned commandments make any goddamn sense in relation to one another.
Make that 4-3 now.

by EricGreggWasPaidOff on Sep 11, 2010 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't know why that is necessarily true
Freeman may well be the guy who hits for a better average while Heyward has more pure power. Or perhaps we’ll realize that that #4 spot is more important that the #3 spot in the batting order.
I think a lot of the idea that Freeman is going to bat clean-up is based entirely on his role as a firstbaseman, and people are just used to first basemen batting fourth.
No.
I think Freeman will bat 5th.

We are seeing the living incarnation of saber conventional wisdom about bullpens.
Everyone who has analyzed it says relief pitching performance is far more volatile than any other major element of team performance. Earlier in the year, our bullpen was lights out. And now, it’s looking increasingly shaky.

Ok, show of hands: who would rather have Chipper strap on his pitcher's glove and hobble out to the mound...
Rather than allow Kyle Farnsworth to face Pujols and Holliday?
Since we're playing this game
I’d rather have had him hobble out there on one leg, carrying his crutch to the batter’s box, rather than have Ankiel hit.
how bout
we work the count, get a good pitch to hit and get base runners…instead of trying to crank one out….
oohhhh boy. Farnsworth.
