Minor in postseason rotation?
Hudson is obviously the guy we would want in Game 1, Game 4 and a crucial game 7 right now...
and JJ is looking like a strong guy for Game 2 and Game 6.
Hanson is reeling a bit...
and Lowe is Lowe - but now with arm problems.
Am I crazy to think that Bobby would throw MINOR out their in Game 3 if the postseason started today?
Should he?
What if Minor continues to roll and ends the season 7-0?

You know Bobby
He won’t pull his experienced postseason guys. Even if they suck. That is just who he is. Everyone knows how he has been criticized for his faith in his players at times.
BUT...
What about “loyalty” from a different perspective when looking at Minor vs. Hanson?
Minor will be a Brave for at least the next 4 years… whereas Hanson has already hired Boras and may be one foot out the door.
Wonder if THAT will have any bearing on this situation.
Chicken pot, chicken pot, chicken pot pie!!
Hanson is with us for the next 4-5 years too. You pitch your best pitchers in the postseason.

most likely “You pitch your best pitchers in the postseason.” this isnt entirely accurate
Ideally it is true, but realistically as mentioned above, Bobby will pitch the pitchers he has the most faith in, that is gonna be Lowe and Hudson and then JJ and Hanson….then everyone else on the planet, and finally KK

I know. I was more just rebutting the Minor possibly over Hanson because Hanson has hired Boras and has one foot out the door. That just seems counter-productive.

just because he signed with Boras doesnt mean he wont be resigned….and it doesnt mean he has “one foot out the door”

this
i think we will have to pick between JJ and Hanson to keep since they switched to Boras…but in a couple years, if planned correctly, we can go ahead and sign Hanson because we will have some money freed up…i don’t think many would argue too hard with me that the Braves should choose Hanson out of the two…

Why is everyone scared of Boras?...
we’ve dealt with him again, and again, and again. Just because he’s their agent doesn’t make them lepers.
you shouldnt say this when you don’t agree with me…I agree with Sanchez and don’t think there’s any reason to think we will not sign both pitchers, being a Boras client doesnt mean we cant sign JJ and Hanson. It is pretty much the same odds as they would be with most any agent.

A bit off-topic, but

Morton hit Heyward with an offspeed pitch. Early indication is that the baseball survived the impact.
Not so sure...but of course I am biased
I think someone in the org is too….just look at his progression…it in some respects has mirrored another Vandy grad, Price.
I know Bobby calls 99.8% of the shots and most def is loyal to his vets…..BUT….with a couple of more quality starts (uhhh last night was good not quality) you might see him sneak in as 3rd starter…with big “if” Lowe’s arm is not up to par
it just felt right and the chance to go to the postseason is hard to pass up. I’ve always respected their orginization… and Bobby…I’m excited. I’m looking forward to it...Derrek Lee (at press conference sayiing he had been traded to the Braves)
Price is exactly who I pictured...
when I thought about Minor being 7-0 at the end of the season.

I'd take Tommy or Lowe over Minor in game 3 in a second
I love Minor and I think he’s going to be great the rest of the year and next year… but he hasn’t really dominated anybody yet the way we know Lowe and Hanson can (preferably Hanson since we all also know Lowe can come out and really, really suck.). He hasn’t gone more than 6 innings… hasn’t give up less that 2 runs (12 Ks I know…). Clearly there’s a lot of time left to evaluate this but right now I’d say Lowe or Hanson (or even KK).
Having a lefty would be nice though… hmm

not easily
but I would take Lowe over Minor and I have wanted us to trade him after his first season
not tying to single you out, but I see this all the time.

no
i don’t think minor will get into the postseason rotation..i think he will be in the bullpen…i think that third spot goes to hanson or lowe…i would hope hanson

I think Minor and KK will represent the Armageddon Bunker- that is, if someone- most likely Lowe- shows early warning signs in a game and only lasts between 1-3 innings, either KK or Minor will appear depending on whether the opposing lineup is lefty- or righty- heavy. It’s definitely not a bad thing to hit October with two starting-caliber long men in your pen because it gives you the ability to pull your starters sooner than you might otherwise to prevent a game from getting out of reach early.
knowing bobby our post season rotation will be
Hudson
Lowe
Jurrjens
Hanson
When it should actually be
Hudson
Hanson
Jurrjens
Minor
Lowe is injured right now anyway and Hanson is not reeling. More like he’s dealing.
Tonight will tell us.
The Mets DEFINE “reeling” right now…
so if Hanson can’t look good against them…
then I am really worried about him.

Why? I don't get it. Why is everyone on Tommy's case this year?
When he dealing for multiple starts nobody notices. The second he has a bad start, the worrywarts come out of the woodwork. He’s on his 1st full season in the bigs. Of course he’s going to have ups & downs. But overall he’s pitched very well.
I bet if Tommy had worse numbers, but was 15-5 or something, nobody would be worried over a rough start.
Apparently the Braves bullpen has blown12 leads this year. Of those 12 leads, 5 of them belong to Tommy. So he very easily could be looking at a 14-10 record right now.

even then
you should factor in the games where we didnt score any runs for him

when he seems to have a bad start he seems to be horrible. not saying that gives any reason to hate on Tommy, but when he bombs he goes big (sometimes)

ok so
whats your point?
If he’s having a bad start its because his stuff is off so of course its going to be a VERY bad start

i have no point I often have no point its part of my charm (name that movie with the slightly altered quote)
i was merely giving a rationale for other poelpe’s thought process…i think Tommy is fine his overall numbers are darn good and thats all i care about

Veteran aside...
JJ has 3 years under his belt, Hanson now one and a half. I think Bobby is smart enough to realize that since Lowe has arrived, both have done better.
We aren't in the playoffs...
we are far from the playoffs so it doesn’t matter right now
3 game lead with 30 games left isn’t a huge lead so it doesn’t matter
plus Minor looked pretty bad last night IMO
Jason Heyward...great guy
Or the umpire looked bad for him.
Dude got hosed numerous times on the corners on BOTH sides of the plate.
Tough to be effective when you have to groove the ball down the middle.
Niese got hosed as well, although I think his k zone was slightly more consistent.

You do know that Hanson has been one of the better pitchers in the NL this season, right?

In a perfect world
the postseason rotation would be evaluated according to the opponent. The more favorable matchups should be considered, even if it is……GASP……wait for it…….

I dunno what #6 will do, but...
I’d send out
Hudson
Hanson
Jurrjens
and have both Minor and Lowe ready if anybody stumbles. Save the back of the bullpen for the back of the bullpen job. It’ll only be a couple of innings at a time, and Lowe actually hasn’t sucked so badly recently. And if I were managing the team, I’d probably set Minor’s expectations relatively low and maybe surprise him with the call. That way he wouldn’t spend a lot of time worrying about it. But I don’t know the personalities, maybe that doesn’t work or may not even be needed.
We may not have the luxury of setting up our rotation
It’s going to be a TIGHT playoff race. We play the Phillies in a final 3 game set in October. Let’s face it, our postseason rotation may be determined by what we have to do to get into the postseason.
If things go according to form:
September 28: Hanson (v. Marlins)
September 29: Hudson (v. Marlins)
September 30: off day
October 1: Lowe (v. Phillies)
October 2: Jurrjens (v. Phillies)
October 3: Minor (v. Phillies)
October 4: off day
October 5: off day
October 6: playoffs
If – big IF – we take care of business the next 24 games, we can spend the final week of the season at home, getting rested and setting up a post-season rotation
so we can start hudson in game 1 on 6 days rest
then have our pick of JJ on normal rest or Hanson on 8 days rest in game 2? sounds like its set up for us.
well that’s what would happen if we have it all sealed up at the end. If we don’t then lowe, jurrjens, minor is not the trio we want to be sending up against the phils in the last 3 games
MASN Announcer: "Ususally they have what they call here 'the privilege,' and that's what bobby cox calls it when he let's the veteran guys swing away on 3-0. This is not such a hitter."
Jason Heyward: Single up the middle, ballgame.
wait
with that schedule. Im pretty sure we skip Minor and bring Hanson back for game 3 against Philly unless we have already clenched the division and home field advantage in the NL

Minor out of the bullpen sounds ok
I mean I know we’ve got a bunch of good lefties already out there, but Minor is a strikeout pitcher with good control so I can definitely see him being used as a loogy.
Tommy Hanson wins the Cy Young next year
write it down, bitches.

Barring injury, there is NO WAY that Minor will or should start over Hudson, JJ, and Hanson. I can definitely see him as our #4 in the playoffs, however. Hanson, despite occasional struggle, can have dominant stuff and is a big part of our rotation. Minor, while getting the W’s, is not (yet) a better pitcher.

As for Minor, I’d have him on the roster.
In the Division series, if up 2-1 in Game 4, I’d pitch him to save Hudson for Gm5, or Gm1 of LCS.
In LCS/WS, I’d pitch him Game 4 if not down 0-3.
i think as you say a lot of it will depend on how the series go…if (god forbid)we are down 1-2 i would put Justin’s life savings on Hudson pitching game 4. (and on him pitching game 5, hell if its Justin’s life savings Im gonna bet Hudson starts all 5 games)
