because we are in a tight race

and i don’t want the guy who has thrown 1 inning (which was a smashing success by the way) since mid-june to get thrown back into our rotation. enough guys are struggling right now as it is, we dont need some rustyfuck in there who was not very good at the start of the year anyway.

by Qtips on Aug 4, 2010 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

That is specious.

KK has been good in the rotation and there’s no reason to think he wouldn’t continue to be good. You are WAY overrating the power of rust, presumably because you aren’t able to make an actual rational argument against KK starting.

A) That's not his ERA in the rotation; it's 4.48

B) ERA is not a great indicator of performance; KK has been at least as good as Lowe, and actually pretty comparable to Medlen except for walk rate.

look i get it, you always take up for the guy nonstop.

My point is, we aren’t in a position where we can allow a guy 2 or 3 starts to shake off the rust. If you don’t think this time off will affect him, you’re nuts.

by Qtips on Aug 4, 2010 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

What makes you think

rust will take 2 or 3 starts to shake off? And what makes you think Minor can just jump right into the bigs and be above-average?

I stick up for KK because people are irrationally opposed to him. I oppose irrational people, generally speaking.

"Yeah, and I have an enchanted jock strap." -- Karl Karlson

by Jacob Peterson on Aug 4, 2010 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions

what makes you think he will jump right in and be so great?

Also, salary reasons aside, why are you so opposed to giving someone else a chance. You were the same way before Medlen got a shot in the rotation, and that turned out alright. I say throw Minor out there, it works for other teams all the time.

by Qtips on Aug 4, 2010 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

The Medlen part of that decision worked out

the KK part did not. My whole argument was not against Meds, but for KK. He needs to be in the rotation, Medlen thrived in the bullpen. Instead we put Medlen in the rotation (where he got hurt) and KK in the bullpen (where he was forgotten).

When you have a pitcher like KK who can pitch well in MLB, you don’t call up a guy who’s had like 4 starts in AAA. Other teams don’t have guys like KK.

Also, I never said KK would be great. But he would be plenty good for a 5th starter.

Good thing the Braves didn’t trade their top pitching prospects at the deadline in such a garbage market. Can never have too much pitching depth….

Lebron has the ball, dribbles down the court splitting the lakers defenders with 5 seconds left on the clock with the game on the line in the 2011 nba finals game 7! Lebron pulls up from deep, in kobes face and drains the three pointer! HEAT WIN HEAT WIN!!! 89-88!!!!! BEEP BEEP BEEP then Lebrons alarm goes off and he wakes up and goes downstairs to eat a delicious breakfast made by Lebrons mom and Delonte West.
