How does a city with 8,000,000 people not sell out a 50,000 seat stadium every night?

That’s nowhere near correct. The Census Bureau puts the figure at about 1.6 million.
I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing Matt Cain.
eh, it’s all so damn congested that it doesn’t really matter.
The point I was making was that while it’s true that our attendance isn’t great, you’d think that an area with ~15-20 million people could sell out a 50,000 seat stadium on a nightly basis.

i was thinking that too
Chicago has 10 million, and i knew NYC was more populated
by ChitownBravos on Aug 31, 2010 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Regardless
Braves attendance really should be better, considering. I mean, yes, Atlanta is a pain and all, but a first place team with 6 all stars, the game’s best young player, and a retiring HOF manager should be able to top 20,000 even on weeknights.
No. The eight million figure is for the NYC metropolitan area.
I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing Matt Cain.
Well, it's for the incorporated NYC limits
which includes all 5 burrows, not just Manhattan. The NYC Metro area is 19+ million, from Bridgeport to Newark.
Atlanta is a regional team. It's not like they sell out Hawks or Falcons games either...
"Voetbal is pas totaal als je wint"- Coach Adun
"The greatest sin is to spurn the gift"- Coach Alistair
they actually did sell out Falcons games most of the last decade
it wasn’t till the Vick fiasco attendance fell off a roof. I think Atlanta fans are more interested in flashy names than actual sound teams.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
I think we sold out every game last year too
We just had a one year dip following the Vick/Petrino fiasco.
nope you guys were in the bottom half of the NFL in attendance last year
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
Depends on the definition of sell-out
for black-out purposes they cut it off at like 94% or somewhere there. Certainly, we didn’t sell 100% of available seats, but we also didn’t encounter local black-outs. At least, I got to watch every game locally except for the game I went to.
oh yeah but NFL games almost never get blacked out
Compared to the Vick era they’ve had much lower attendance

Jacksonville disagrees with NFL games not getting blacked out

a while back
schumaker made an error with carpenter pitching and after the half-inning, he chewed him out in the dugout
I thought it was because he grabbed the wrong glove
right before the game was about to start
ROBOT HEYWARD: TEAM PHILLIES APPEAR TO BE LOSING EVERY GAME IN WHICH TEAM BRAVES LOSE. NEW STRATEGY: START KAWAKAMI, KENSHIN IN REMAINING 35 GAMES
Yeah it was, cause he delayed the start of the inning getting the right one, Carpenter was pissed
"A good friend of mine used to say, This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. Think about that for a while." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
That was part of it too. he went back to switch gloves. But Carp only had to wait like 2 seconds.
If he wanted to get on the guy fine, but there was a better way to do it out of sight.
what happened?
Go USA, Braves, BU Terriers, Irish, Caps, Colts, Hoyas, NU Cats, Wizards, DC United, Washington Freedom
BU Hockey: National Champions 1971, 1972, 1978, 1995, 2009
In the process of completely missing home plate to do so…..that was funny
"A good friend of mine used to say, This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. Think about that for a while." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
he was coming home, play at the plate, he lowers his shoulder and RAMS into the florida catcher, and the catcher is out for a while. all when he could’ve slid and been safe.
Are you serious? tonight?

Nope, then again, I wouldn’t want to face an accurate pitcher who throws 105….so take that for what it’s worth
