Atlanta has the "worst baseball fans? Not really.

It seems like the only response other teams' fans have to their team getting beat by the Braves is, "oh yeah, well Atlanta has the worst fans!"

First of all, I suppose they are actually trying to say we have fewer fans, because it usually is paired with the statement that although the Braves are in first place there aren't many fans at the games. So if the intention is to say we have fewer fans, don't insult the ones who are there.

However, saying we have the fewest fans still would be incorrect. The Braves are actually averaging about 31,000 per game, which is 14th out of the 30 teams. Also, several teams which are still in contention for a playoff spot have worse attendance than the Braves. These include the Texas Rangers (leading their division), Chicago White Sox (2nd in their division), Cincinnati Reds (leading their division), San Diego Padres(leading their division), and the Tampa Bay Rays(tied for lead in their division). So, the next time you hear that tired old chorus about the Braves having "the worst fans", you can set them straight.

Here's a link to the attendance stats.
