Braves Place Martin Prado On The Disabled List; Recall Hernandez
The Atlanta Braves will not play a man short for another game. The team has placed All-Star second baseman Martin Prado on the disabled list with a fractured right pinky finger. The Braves will call up infielder Diory Hernandez from triple-A Gwinnett. Hernandez was leading the G-Braves with a .319 average, hitting well of late including a four-hit game two nights ago.
Prado has been out of the lineup since last Friday and the team felt he would not be able to return to the lineup within the week. This is really the best outcome as it gives Prado all the time he needs to recover -- a very similar move and injury to the one Jason Heyward suffered a month ago. Prado is eligible to come off the DL on August 15th
In Gwinnett Braves news, Willy Taveras was released and reports are that Chris Resop's locker is empty. Because Resop was on a rehab assignment he can only stay in the minor leagues so long and that clock has run out. So either the Braves have to call him up or place him on waivers since he is out of options. I wonder if he would be better than Kenshin Kawakami? They both pitched in Japan.
UPDATE: The AJC reports that indeed Resop has been placed on outright waivers in an effort to send him to triple-A and get him off the 40-man roster (a move they have to make if they don't call him to he Majors). We'll see if Resop gets claimed by anyone. My money is on the Royals.

I’m going to cry now.
At least we have the next best thing: Infante.

Not a surprise imo
Let Martin heal up and come back 100% fully rested, just hope the Braves can hang on to 1st while he is out.
tonight's lineup is wonky, folks
Infante 4
Heyward 9
Chipper 5
Diaz 7
Gonzalez 6
Glaus 3
Ankiel 8
Ross 2
Hudson 1
Diaz
kills lefties and santana so I expect him to get a big hit tonight. I’m fine with him batting fourth.

I think Howard sprained his ankle sliding feet first.
Prado’s hand got caught under him, and he said his pinky got caught in a little hole beside home…that really really stinks.

I thought he broke his wrist. Thank god he’s not out for longer. This isn’t terrible news, but it isn’t great either. It could be much, much worse

Yeah...
When I saw the replays of the slide, I was certain we’d be without Prado for at least a month or longer…Given that scenario, I was pretty relieved to hear the injury news…
As far as putting him on the DL, Prado’s a gamer and would have tried to play too soon…If the Braves weren’t lucky enough to have an All Star to replace Prado in the lineup, I would be a little more stressed.
Take your time to heal Prado!
Not too surprising
We need Prado to be healthy when he comes back, not be a shell of himself. This move should give him ample time. Maybe Diory Hernandez can keep up his hot hitting…although chances are slim since he’ll probably be used rarely. Maybe Bobby does have more faith in him than in Brandon Hicks.
+1
i kindof see him as a poor mans andrus. Plays great solid D and can make plays with the glove. Hopefully like andrus did his bat can come around aswell.

If this team is going to stay in first and make the playoffs than it’s time for chipper to step up..that goes for glaus too. While prado is out one of those two will have to step it up or when Martin comes back we’ll be lookin up at the phillies

Chipper’s body is letting him down, he is 38 years old, he can’t carry the team anymore.

Why can’t we just give the Nats: Schafer, Vizcaino, and Cabrera for Willingham? I love Willingham and Wren needs to do something because Cabrera sucks
And have the Nat's laugh in our face?
It's hard to say what's been most impressive. The seamless jump from AA? The ability to hit for average? The ability to hit for power? The 18 walks in 111 trips to the plate? The flair for the dramatic? When you're trying to isolate the most impressive aspect of Jason Heyward's game, there's a lot to choose from, and it's only been a month and a half.
we can re-stock. Not like we need Vizcaino now. Schafer is hitting air and Cabrera is just a fat man who can’t hit but worse… can’t run…. Willingham is a legit Left-fielder. He would help our joke of an outfield
the only good outfielders are Diaz (who never plays), Hinske ( a fantastic utility guy), Heyward ( a boss)
And you wonder why the Nats wouldn't consider it!!
I mean, hell, let’s throw in a ’86 Oldsmobile and call it a deal!!

And if we traded away Vizcaino and he became a star, fans would whine about it – like the Wainwright and Texeira trades. Trust me, you might think it’s a good trade now, but if Vizzy becomes a star, you (and others) will be whining about how horrible it was.

fine then… give up something good for something good. Mike Rizzo and Frank Wren are not tards so maybe they can work something smart. We can give them Schafer, Cabrera, Minor, Dunn for Willingham and a reliever. I doubt Wren will do it. He seems to like a crappy offense.
You do know...
That the trade deadline has passed. These players would have to go thru waivers to be traded.

the only reason i cry over Wainwright is they asked for Horacio Rameirez first but we said that he was “untouchable” its very heart breaking since its a deal that still screws us til this day. wainwright would mean no lowe. no terrible contract. 16 million for a big bat.
But what about...
Trading for JJ and not trading Hanson to the Padres? Thus, it all kind of equals out, in my opinion.
I agree that not having Wainwright stinks, but you win some and you lose some…
Just another reason y we gatta win it all this year!!
Yeah its sad but i really think hes done after this year. Its a shame,u think they will ever move him out of the 3 hole come playoff time? Not that they should but just out of curiousity if someone like ankiel starts to become of his 2008 self or if they call up matt young/a speedy leadoff type which would flux the top of the order.?

Shooting from the hip...
KC or Pittsburgh, depending on which one gets a shot at him first in the waiver order.
What is both surprising and delightful is that spectators are allowed, and even expected, to join in the vocal part of the game.... There is no reason why the field should not try to put the batsman off his stroke at the critical moment by neatly timed disparagements of his wife's fidelity and his mother's respectability. ~George Bernard Shaw
Arizona needs a bullpen,...
among others, even contending teams. Hard to imagine no one takes a chance on him, but then we can hope they don’t.
With Resop out, and Clevlen...
we’ve got a lot of open space on our 40 man roster (3 or 4 spots), I wonder who Wren has in mine to fill them?
