Manny Ramirez?
HECK. NO! We just got rid of Yunel for his “bad attitude”, we don’t need Manny.

Very doubtful.
The only good players who clear waivers are the ones with bad contracts, and I doubt we have the financial flexibility to take on any of those guys.
There's a couple of difficulties with the Waiver-Trade procedure
1. The Braves’ position at/near the top of the NL standings means that they are at/near the bottom of the waiver claim priority order. Even if something were to manifest itself, there is a decent likelihood that any player of serious impact would be claimed by another team, which would block Atlanta from being able to make any deal for that player.
Furthermore, if you want to trade a ML player for another ML player, both have to clear waivers.
2. Anybody that teams truly wanted to move, pretty well were traded last week, leaving few real impact players available… at least few without excess contract issues (as was pointed out) or other baggage.
This is why a slew of deals were completed last weekend – the difference between the unrestricted non-waiver deadline and our current trade-by-waivers-only situation is like night and day.

That’s the most polite, coherent way of asking someone to use the reply button I’ve ever seen. Good job.

Winnar!
for irony.
And what is with the, I guess it’s text talk, going on around here lately. Is it really that hard to spell a word in full and use, or at least try to use, proper english? Spelling and grammar errors happen, but this stuff gets near unreadable.

That, and it just comes across as lazy.
Not to mention, it is annoying as hell.

it's been increasinly common in new posters lately...
not just you. But for those who aren’t fully acclimated as some of the kids these days are, it takes some deciphering.
And again, see just below vvvvvvvvvvvv is “up”, “reply”, and “actions”. “up” can be clicked on to know what a post is replying to, and “reply” puts the reply directly under the post for easier reading of the discussion.
we like to haze the NEWBZ

We need some kind of Superman 3 computer collection system to get a dollar every time somebody posts this. I swear by now we could buyout the Ted and have a TC night.

oooh, that’d be fun. TCers invading the ted, stealing food, running on the field and hugging JHey and screaming “I LOVE YOU!” at him….lets make that money collection system now!

I so totally would fly down for that. We’d have to all be on our laptops though, so we could maintain an OT during the game.

Relevant to this thread, in case anyone is interested
The only possible name I can think of
is Chone Figgins. There was talk about him before the deadline, and he could possibly get through waivers. If we got him I wouldn’t know where to use him though
Carpe Diaz
Manny, Vernon Wells,...
I can think of a few players who profile wise fit our need (productive bat, capable of playing in the OF). Doesn’t mean their personality or contracts fit, but there could be quite a few that fit what we’re looking for depending on how things go with internal options and what Wren is allowed to spend.
Holy smokes – I knew that Wells had a “bad contract”, but didn’t realize he’s still owed about $86m over the next four years. I would on his bandwagon except for that.

Yeah, Wells is pretty much untouchable...
…even if they agreed to take Lowe’s full contract. That one is just brutally bad.
I don’t see anything major happening—-the Dodgers won’t move Manny, Vernon Wells is untouchable, and I don’t think the Mariners move Figgins, either.
But, can we move Lowe or KK?

I'll expand on your thought.
This is an odd case to me… here’s why:
1. Apparently ATL inquired about him and Seattle said “no” to whatever we offered.
2. All the talk I see since then is how he isn’t fitting well in Seattle, his production is way down, and has had some confrontations with the coaches.
3. Given #2, why didn’t they take Frank Wren seriously?
4. Also given #2, is this the kinda guy we might really want? And where would he play? I know we’d like to have a “true leadoff guy”, he’s an infielder. So maybe if he could play at 2nd and Prado LF, but otherwise…. and he’s expensive at $9m a year for 3 more years.
So this is puzzling to me.

There are conflicting reports...
One says we approached them, the other that they approached us.
As for the salary, the consensus is that we’d actually be getting Figgins and salary relief from the M’s. That’s right, get rid of Lowe AND make some money in the deal…
It makes sense in that the Mariners, for whatever reason, truly believed they could take a shot at the playoffs this season, went all in early, and got absolutely mauled. They’re nowhere near where they thought they were, and Figgins won’t fit well into any future plans. Super albatross status…
He also has a vesting option for 2014 that could add another $9MM onto the end, which is yet another monkey wrench that really hurts the M’s in figuring out what future payroll will consist of. Basically, this contract is looking very bad at the moment…if his production doesn’t improve, it’s going to keep looking worse. It doesn’t help when you figure that he’s going to be 35 or 36 at the end of the contract.
To be brutally honest, I wouldn’t be over-inclined to do this without a very significant portion of his contract being picked up by the M’s, even with Lowe coming off the books. FWIW, Figgins was born in GA and played HS ball in FL…
-C
One problem: Where does he play? If you stick him at 2B, move Prado to LF, that leaves us with an outfield of:
Diaz/Hinske/Prado/Melky/Ankiel/Heyward/poss McOut in Sept.
We don’t need 6 people for 3 OF spots. Someone else either has to go in the deal, or 1B becomes a platoon with Hinske.
"Jason Heyward was a Greek philosopher reincarnated as a baseball player." - Don Sutton
Jose Guillen?
…but not until figuring out how Ankiel works out. I see them as essentially equivalent.

Ty Wiggington
was mentioned in the above^article concerning waivers. Ty could help multiple teams that are in need of a utility type player.
