Third spot!

I was hoping for this. Good call!

Maybe it’s because I have infinite confidence in Martin but I think the team’s offense will absolutely thrive with Infante setting the table and Martin batting third. I’m very excite!

I like it as well.

My only problem is why not call up Freeman. I believe Glaus has naked pictures of Cox because I think Glaus is getting too many at bats for as big of a slump as he has been in.

Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason.

It has nothing to do with Glaus.

It’s all about the fact that we have nothing behind him.

I like the idea of Prado batting third

But let’s be honest…. He THRIVES in the one-hole, he was ok in the two-hole… Why not just bat him leadoff?

This makes my day...

Seriously. All the talk of rumors has my head swirling. I LOVE the idea of Infante, J-Hey and Prado at the top of the line-up…

Love it, and they are all so good, it doesn’t matter what order they hit…

Let’s see….he raked at two, raked at leadoff, so the Braves activate him and he is going to hit 3rd? Not a big fan of this, but I guess if you need a hit machine to bring in OBP machines then go for it. I always get nervous of the mental affect a new lineup spot has. In Prado we trust!

by CharlotteChop on Aug 17, 2010 3:52 PM EDT reply actions

Would you rather have a .300 OBP guy hitting 3rd?

I’m worried the hand will hurt Prado’s hitting right now though, hopefully not.

by Broccoman on Aug 17, 2010 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Prado isn’t a stranger to batting third. In fact, he’s 13 for 42 (.310) batting third.

Really like him third now as long as he is not too restrained by the pinkie. Here’s hoping Martin is back close to 100%.

by Sir Stealth on Aug 17, 2010 3:52 PM EDT reply actions

An 80% Prado would be a much needed boost to our offensive woes of late.

just so long as it can't get worse...

if it’s a matter of playing with pain, I think Prado can do it without much difficulty. If there is a chance the injury gets worse, that’s another story, but I was under the impression that playing can’t do much more damage than is already done (outside of an incident that would produce an injury on it’s own)

by Mr. Sanchez on Aug 17, 2010 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Did we send down Diory or Hicks?

Hicks. Should never have brought him up in the first place. Bring up Canizares if you want to keep Freeman down, can he play anything other then 1B?

by Broccoman on Aug 17, 2010 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

He can’t even really play 1st. Glaus would be an improvement to Canizares. But that dude can hit.

by FreddieFreemanTime on Aug 17, 2010 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions

In that case, he needs to be traded to an AL team that needs a DH bad.

by Broccoman on Aug 17, 2010 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Such as?...

you aren’t the first to come up with that theory. Problem is it takes two teams to trade.

by Mr. Sanchez on Aug 17, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

seattle? LA angels? oakland? that all have an OPS of sub-700 from their DH positions.

by atl192485 on Aug 17, 2010 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

And if any of the 3 made an acceptable offer for Canizares...

don’t you think Wren would take it? Add the White Sox too as a team needing a DH, but then they don’t appear to be making any offers for Cuban B either.

by Mr. Sanchez on Aug 17, 2010 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

i was just answering your question on which AL team needs a DH when you asked, “Such as?,” not commenting on whether or not a deal would be realistic.

by atl192485 on Aug 17, 2010 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Such as?...

was asking such as who would be the trade partner, not who needs a DH.

by Mr. Sanchez on Aug 17, 2010 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

fair enough. my mistake.

but noone knows if FW has ever gotten an offer for canizares. i would think that FW may want to keep barbaro to maintain minor-league depth, especially for next year when presumably FF will start.

by atl192485 on Aug 17, 2010 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

We can sign minor league depth for cheap...

see Mitch Jones, Brent Clevlen, Mauro Gomez, etc. If someone made an offer for Barbaro that included a piece they thought could be a valuable MLB player, I don’t think Wren would pass that up. It’s clear he’s not part of the future plans, and since minor league space filler isn’t exactly hard to come by, any offer that could include a piece capable of being part of those future plans, even if they were a low A/rookie ball type player a long ways off from being a MLB caliber player would likely have been accepted if it existed.

by Mr. Sanchez on Aug 17, 2010 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions

He doesn't have any power....

Hopefully, Prado batting third will help get Heyward better at-bats.

The birth of Jason Heyward was God’s punishment for the sins of the people in New York and Philly.

by TonyAlmeyda on Aug 17, 2010 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

Exactly

Everybody is pitching Heyward outside. He rarely gets anything to hit. Prado should definitely ease that….

by Undocorkscrew on Aug 17, 2010 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't 'hope' the division comes down to the final series of the season....

…..but if it does, I f_cking love our chances.

And if Prado doesn’t hit in the 3-hole, it’s because he’s not fully healthy or rust. He can hit anywhere you put him, and with Infante raking and J-Hey walking, the 3rd spot is the best place for the teams best all-around hitter.

by Undocorkscrew on Aug 17, 2010 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

Our line-up improves immensely with Prado back in there

Suddenly, it re-establishes order, with his .357 OBP in the three slot.

Infante .368
Heyward .368
Prado .357
McCann .383 (expect this to go up as he’s pitched around even more as the year progesses)

by Bronn on Aug 17, 2010 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Getting him and Heyward back does it...

the drop off from him and Odarp to Ankiel and Gonzalez is signficant. We need them both to be healthy and produce the rest of the way, as they are now our core components of the order (since McCann isn’t as capable of playing every game left on the schedule).

by Mr. Sanchez on Aug 17, 2010 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Thinking about tomorrow's lineup

1. Infante (AS), 2. Heyward (AS), 3. Prado (AS), and 4. McCann (AS). Has there every been a lineup with the top 4 in the order are All Stars? (I am assuming the Yankees have done this quite often over the years)

by romone_braves91 on Aug 17, 2010 4:06 PM EDT reply actions

i'm sure there has been but

has there ever been a lineup with all 9 players as all-stars?

this potential lineup has all 9 players as former and current all-stars:

4 Prado (AS)
9 Heyward (AS)
5 Chipper (former AS)
2 McCann (AS)
3 Glaus (former AS)
6 Gonzalez (former AS)
8 McLouth (former AS)
7 Infante (AS)
1 Hudson (AS) or Lowe (former AS)

‘Aquiring’ Prado off the DL is better than any other deal Wren could have made. Is there a better second or third basemen out there that offer the same defensive and offensive talent as Prado and Infante? I seriously doubt it.

Jason Heyward wins at baseball.

Big day for second basemen

Chase Utley is also back. So it’s not like we’ve gained an advantage over them today. They’ll also be getting Ryan Howard back at some point. Going to need to play very well in order to maintain the lead over them the next few weeks.

by Bronn on Aug 17, 2010 5:04 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah...

But haven’t they been winning a ton anyway? They don’t get double Ws for their games now. They are 15-5 in their last 20 games, and I don’t see them maintaining that percentage even with Utley and Howard in the line-up…

Yes, they have been playing very well

And I was waiting on the regression because they couldn’t maintain that pace without Utley. As it is, we’ve seen a 7 game lead become a 2.5 game lead. We can’t anticipate them getting any worse at this point, so we’ll have to play even better to hold them off.
