Braves Quote For The Day ... Javy Lopez Is Javy Lopez, Right

I'll just let this one explain itself:

Lefty reliever Javier Lopez has done an excellent job since the Giants traded for him. Through Monday, he had not allowed a run and retired 13 of his 16 hitters. He cannot, however, gun down a potential base-stealer from home plate, though longtime Atlanta Braves catcher Javy Lopez could 28 percent of the time.

Aside from their names and nationality - both were born in Puerto Rico - there is no relation, but some folks do not seem to understand that they are not the same guy.

"I get a lot of 'welcome backs' when I go to Atlanta," said Lopez the Giant, who has not donned a Braves uniform in his eight-year major-league career. [...]

Javier Lopez still gets Javy Lopez cards in the mail even though the latter retired in 2006.

"I usually send them back with a note," the new Giant said. "I really love it when you're a pitcher and they send you a card with a picture of a catcher."

Anyone else think we should cut education in Georgia?

Let’s not be so quick to judge. Who knows where those cards are sent from? There are Braves fans EVERYWHERE.

That’s ok, they still send Brian Wilson copies of Surfin USA to sign.

Clearly, their positions aren’t what differentiate them. It’s the fact that Javy Lopez is HOT.

I wish we keep him around another year or two

Two questions.

One: When did we convert Javy to a pitcher?

Two: When did we trade him to the Giants?

You’d be amazed how many times players get cards of guys with the same name. There was a pitcher named Chris Smith who was with Pawtucket, the Red Sox AAA team and people would hand him cards of a Chris Smith who was with the Orioles. The O’s Chris Smith was a lefty and born in a different year and was out of baseball after only a year or 2, but people still gave the Red Sox guy his cards. Funny thing was, the Red Sox Chris Smith was kind of a rude guy and would sign them because he didn’t care enough to look at what he was signing, he just grabbed the pen, scrawled a doodle on it, grunted, and walked away.
