Alright fans - the Braves were definitely "buyers" this summer, which tells me that (a) the team knew they had to get better to keep the lead, and (b) the owners were willing to pay the money to make it happen.
Evaluating individual trades is like evaluating chapters in a book - if you just look at one trade, you miss the big picture. So - here's what I've come up with...
|
In the door… |
Out the door… |
|
Alex Gonzalez, ss |
Yunel Escobar, ss |
|
Rick Ankiel, of |
Gregor Blanco, of |
|
Kyle Farnsworth, rp |
Jesse Chavez, rp |
|
Tyler Pastornicky, ss-AA |
JoJo Reyes, sp-AAA |
|
Wilkin Ramírez, of - AAA |
Mitch Jones, of-AAA |
* alas, Tim Collins was "in" and "out" the door too quickly. I think he will be an MLB gamer soon. Timmy, we hardly knew ya! Maybe Frank can get him back one day.
Anyway, I'd have to say that comparing who came with who left, we are in a much better position to make a post-season run.
We didn't get a lot, but we didn't pay very much...
- Escobar - would probably ask for $10-million in his next contract.
- Blanco - a career 4-A player
- Chavez - a pitcher who gives poor hitters hope, and makes heroes of wannabe sluggers, and
- Reyes - Give him the rock to go out and win one? No.
What do you think? Answer the poll, already!
