2010 Southern League All-Star Game

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Can't get to Anaheim for the biggest sporting event of the week?...uh, other than the LeBron thing... and that Soccer thing... and there's the biking thing... oh, nm.

The Southern League (AA) All-Star Game is Monday evening, July 12, at Joe Davis stadium in Huntsville, Alabama (Drake Ave. exit off of the 231/431 Memorial Parkway, then south on Leeman-Ferry Rd). The Mississippi Braves will be represented in the field by catcher Orlando Mercado and OF'r Willie Cabrera. Pitchers are Brandon Beachy (1.15 ERA) and Mike Minor. DH Cody Johnson is also on the squad. Link to Complete All-Star Rosters

The notation for Mike Minor is "selected, but unable to play". I presume this is related to his pitching schedule. Bummer, that. Nonetheless, I see the Braves well represented here. Of additional note are guys such as Brandon Tripp (Jacksonville/Marlins). It's his THIRD All-Star game - batting .322 and slugging .517. We might see him in Fish-stripes soon enough. Looks like both squads are pitching-loading, but they're facing a lot of .300+ hitters.

Schedule of Events:
Exhibition game with the Miracle League: 5:30pm (and no, I don't know the answer to that question).
Pre-game stuff starts at 7pm.
First pitch slated for 7:30pm
Fireworks afterwards.

Admission is $10 for general admission tix, $12 for lower reserved area seating (behind the net). Redstone Federal Credit Union members can get 4 freebies by presenting their check or credit cards. Lots of good seats in this park.

It's my plan to be there Monday night -- will try and hang near the Southern Division dugout (the visiting team) and claim I'm the Talking Chop roving reporter to see if these guys will give me a few photos... I'm in the process of moving, so anything's possible, but we'll give it a shot. If I was lucky with radio station WUMP yesterday, then I might even have an extra ticket available myself!
