Braves Minor League Open Thread
Everyone seems to be in a chatty mood tonight, so because there's no Atlanta Braves game we'll throw up the ol' minor league open thread. The Gwinnett Braves game will be televised on CSS if you're a Comcast customer. Feel free to also discuss any other sporting news of the night, as if there's anything else going on that we're not all sick and tired of. Here's a great post that points out the absurdity of it all, and should be way up there in the search page rankings.

Teheran was a late scratch for this start against Winston-Salem since he’ll be tossing in the Futures Game on Sunday. The Braves didn’t want Teheran to throw tonight, then fly to Anaheim and pitch again on two day’s rest. He’ll be back after the break.
dang
i was hoping to watch him tonight… still havent seen him pitch live yet

Lots of interesting pitchers tonight
Redmond, Diamond, Rasmus all throwing tonight. Diamond, I’ve came to the conlusion is simply hittable. He’s given up an insane amount of hits in his MiLB career. I like Rasmus, a lot, probably more than most. He’s got a ton of potential, in my opinion. One of our more under-rated prospects.

Jordan Schafer
I just saw Schafer get thrown out trying to steal second. His comeback has been pretty depressing so far. I hope he gets his timing back at some point.
I feel his wrist is still giving him problems.
I noticed him shaking his wrist after throwing a ball into third from the outfield, minutes ago.

Redmond
getting hit hard tonight, 8 hits, 4 walks and 6 runs in 4 innings.

did you see that throw logan just made? wow, the throwing arm’s certainly looking strong;

Great throw
but they showed him shaking his wrist, that was concerning.

Looks like we need to hope McLouth recovers...
or Melky can at least become his high avg, decent D self from the Yankees.
Yes,
It’s looking that way for sure.
Washington Tribune, June 29 2010 – "The stonecutters carving Stephen Strasburg’s name onto the Washington Monument have been directed to await further instructions."
He really did set himself back by attempting to play throw a broken wrist last year. It still makes me wince to imagine holding a bat and making contact with a bum wrist. His career is going to take some time to recover-he’s got to get strength back in that joint and he’s got to work out the bad habits.
Sometimes, when you get used to pain when you do something, your muscle memory guards against that pain. It’s like if you sprain an ankle playing basketball (been there). Even when the ankle recovers, you’re still favoring it a little bit and you come down heavier on the opposite ankle. It takes effort to come back from those things.
I hope Jordan can overcome it.
I am honestly suprised to see him playing.
He said in ST it was still hurting and he was no where near ready to come back.

I wish I had CSS
Oh well. After a couple of rough games for Freeman, looks like he’s back on track a bit.
I love being able to watch them on CSS
They were also on MLBN yesterday.

do you mean for the rest of this year, or in terms of logan’s long-term value?

I mean as far as playing CF next year...
and possibly his long term value if it’s not healing properly.
he’s no chip, lol

LeBron
Jeez, now Jordan is talking about him. I’m heard enough for a lifetime about him.
Washington Tribune, June 29 2010 – "The stonecutters carving Stephen Strasburg’s name onto the Washington Monument have been directed to await further instructions."
"The Decision" airs at 9 pm
I’m purposely not watching it. I’m actually curious about where he’ll go, but I’m content to just read about it later. Or tomorrow, even. It doesn’t affect me immediately enough to need to know instantly.
To spite LeBron, I plan on watching a Burn Notice rerun while DVRing something completely different while LeBron is on TV. I have at least two things I care about more than watching this side-show.
Haha
I’ve got the Phils and Reds going also. Votto hit a HR for the Reds only run, but then made an error at first allowing the Phils to score a run.

Mississippi scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first
Mississippi is depressing because we don’t have any true prospects on that team. When they do well, it’s like “eh, good for them.”
sweet.

Anyone find the box score for the DSL game?
It keeps coming up as a broken link whenever I try to view it. I’m at least marginally interested in who pitched that game. We’ve got a couple of 16-17 year olds on that roster who are really interesting.
Yeah, I got it...
thoughts overall, agree on Mississippi doing well, with no one of real note as a prospect. Nice game by Spruill back in Myrtle, and maybe Joe Leonard can go ahead to Rome.
But DSL notable…
It went 14, lost 5-4.
Gerardo Reyes went 2-3.
Hector Garcia went 2-6, 3 runs, with a HR.
Eduardo Castilla started, 6 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 0 bb, 4 k
Enrique Medina came in for 4 scoreless innings, no hits, no k, 1 bb
Oh, and GCL played two...
William Beckwith had a big day at the plate, and both he and Edison Sanchez had HR.
Thurston doubles
for his second hit tonight. I was impressed by his play in ST, and was hoping he would get the call over Hicks, nothing against Hicks, just sayin’.
Washington Tribune, June 29 2010 – "The stonecutters carving Stephen Strasburg’s name onto the Washington Monument have been directed to await further instructions."
Martinez
has looked good coming in from the BP.

Pinch hitter for Schafer
That was interesting the speculation over why they pinch hit for Schafer. It makes me wonder what is going to happen why McClouth goes to Gwinnett. They keep bringing in these base stealing outfielders. Josh Anderson was signed and now Taveras.
Schafer
was shaking his wrist in the outfield after making a strong throw in. It looked as if it was hurting him, then he came out of the game. I don’t see him making it up to ATL this season.
Washington Tribune, June 29 2010 – "The stonecutters carving Stephen Strasburg’s name onto the Washington Monument have been directed to await further instructions."
Taveras
was So much fun to watch run and steal bases in the game this week on MLBN. I know he has his downfalls, but his speed is So exciting to see.

So apparently
Ryan Madson just threw a wild pitch that was so wild it allowed a man to score from second?
Rome is breaking out the bats
10-4, now, apparently in the top of the 7th. Notables:
Salcedo: 3-3, 2B, 3B, 2R, 3 RBI, .280.
Cunningham: 2-4, R, RBI
Kreke: 2-4, 2 2Bs, R, RBI.
Phils take the lead 3-2 in the 8th
on a Rollins sac fly, now Dictorino batting with 2 out.

This has been your “I’m sick of hearing about this!” moment of the day

He's actually my evil twin
My taller, darker skinned, better looking, more athletic, more skilled, richer, evil twin. But hey, at least I went to college.
Go Reds
9th, runners on 1st and 2nd, 0 outs!!

hope the reds can finally come through
they have two opportunities with runner on 3rd and 1 out, and couldn’t score both times
Bruce hits into DP
Cairo up with 2 outs.

Is Matt Young the shortest player in the minor or major leagues?
Sure looks to be.

Who’s no David Eckstein
"Batting second and playing shortstop-he's Cuban. Yeah, his name's Pablo...no, eh, Yunel Escobar, sorry"
Does anyone know if he is related to the Matt Young
that pitched for this teams Mariners/RedSox/Dodgers/Athletics/Indians 1983-1993?
Washington Tribune, June 29 2010 – "The stonecutters carving Stephen Strasburg’s name onto the Washington Monument have been directed to await further instructions."
I really doubt it
but I can’t say with any certainty. There’s almost no way he’s that Matt Young’s son since he was born in Texas, but the elder Matt Young came up as a member of the Seattle organization.
Also,
I noticed the former Matt Young was a big/tall dude, this young one would have to have a very short/ petite Mom, if indeed this is his Dad:)

ANYBODY HOOOOME?!?!??!
Go USA, Braves, BU Terriers, Irish, Caps, Colts, Hoyas, NU Cats, Wizards, DC United, Washington Freedom
BU Hockey: National Champions 1971, 1972, 1978, 1995, 2009
Reds lost :(

Werth
Dropped a high volume f bomb on a dad in the crowd for catching a foul ball that he was reaching into the stands for. With the fan’s kid (10 yo, give or take a year or two) right there beside him.
I normally ignore most anything that comes out of Millar’s yap but he lit him up pretty strongly on MLB Net.
