Barbaro Canizares
So for the past season and a half or so, barbaro canizares has been raking for the g-braves with an average over .300. i know he doesnt have the greatest power for a first baseman and hes not so young, but why is he such an afterthought as an immediate first baseman solution possibly next year if freddie the future freeman is not ready yet. do scouts see him as a mitch jones AAAA slugger?

cause
he isnt that good
he batted a solid .190 last year…
Plus why think of 1B next year when we got GLAUSOSAUER
OJ didn't do it
Eh.
That all depends on Chipper’s decision to retire or not and whether or not Glaus can transition back to third. Because if he can, I honestly think that’s our best option. Freeman is showing signs of life as of late and may be ready by Opening Day 2011.
Kawakami - 1, Halladay - 0
i think we have a team option
or is it a player option?
for one more year
None of the above.
Unfortunately, Glaus and his agent were more shrewd than Wren this time, and Glaus is an FA after this year regardless. Maybe he hits his way into being a type B FA?

No way
is Glaus going to be able to play his way into being a type B. The typing is done on a 3 year weighted average, if I recall correctly. With his injuries in ’08 and ’09, no way is that happening.
The incentives in Glaus contract were monetary, not related to any additional option. So if the Braves want to resign him, they’ll have to do so against the market. Though if Larry Wayne retires, and Glaus is interested and able to play 3B again, or even 1B (Prado to 3B, find a 2B), the Braves could still potentially offer him the most attractive package and continuity.

He was considered "able" to play third when he signed this winter, and did so at the end of last season for STL.

Yes, because one tends to find out all there is to know about a player during a five-game trial in the bigs.

That's basically what Canizares is...
…a AAAA guy. Useful as organizational depth, and can be a bench guy for a couple of weeks for the Braves if somebody goes on the DL, but not a major league regular, certainly wouldn’t hit enough to play first base.
Barbaro
He does have a nice stroke and makes contact. The problem has been
his glove where he is not ML. 21 AB last year is not a realistic measure
of how he would work as a back up. Back ups though often play
late in a game so this too would pose a problem.
Despite his limited power for a lB he could help an AL team as a DH.

He never walks doesn't hit for a lot of power and provides no defensive value
His skill set can make for a useful pinch hitter, that’s about it.
